'Hunger Games' Happenings: The DVD Release Date and Robert Pattinson in 'Catching Fire'?

By: Sean OConnell on May 23, 2012 at 2:31PM Comments (343)

Could Robert Pattinson possibly trade one massive movie franchise in The Twilight Saga for another in The Hunger Games?

That’s the rumor making the rounds after the Web site Think McFly Think revealed that Lionsgate is “chasing” Pattinson for its upcoming Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire, and would like for him to play Finnick Odair.

On a few levels, it makes sense. Catching Fire now will be helmed by Francis Lawrence, who directed Pattinson in the literary adaptation Water for Elephants. And Pattinson’s a marquee sensation who immediately brings tons of exposure to an already popular film series.

But – and here’s where the ride goes off the rails a bit – readers of Suzanne Collins’ books know that Odair is nothing like Pattinson (on the surface), and the casting wouldn’t be ideal. As Perri Nemiroff writes for Movies.com, “I’ll be the first to admit that Pattinson is a good looking guy, but Finnick Odair is much more the Abercrombie model-type – tall, tan, fit and handsome. Sure Pattinson could beef up, but I suspect he’s just too naturally lean to look strong and athletic enough.”

What do you think, Hunger Games fans? Is RPattz the right guy to play Odair? Or is this stunt casting to bring a major movie star over to a franchise that doesn’t need it?

Speaking of the original Games, Lionsgate also revealed that the film will reach DVD and Blu-ray shelves – as well as On Demand and Digital Download – on Aug. 18 at 12:01 a.m. Details of supplements are unavailable at this time … but we do have a trailer for the home entertainment release. Enjoy, and may the odds be ever in your favor.

I'd walk over hot coals to see Robert Pattinson in ANY movie...He can just stand still and I'd still pay to see him...Who are these weird kids saying no...apparently they DO NOT UNDERSTAND the Robert Pattinson fan base...or the fact that he IS a very good actor, as every single director and actor who has worked with him has said. You want to critize his acting skills, then be a member of the craft and really understanf it...like ALL the well known directors and actors who have worked with him...sitting home sucking your thumbs and being negative only shows how very little you know.... not too bright!

Robert Pattinson is a good actor, but he is not fit to portay Finnick in Catching Fire. If anyone should play Finnick, it's Ian Somerhalder (actor from The Vampire Diaries). Finnick is supposed to be strong, handsome, and have amazing eyes. Ian Somerhalder has all of those qualities. He would be an absolute perfect match for Finnick. I pictured Ian as Finnck when I read the books, and I would really like to see him on the big screen in the movie.

If Ian Somerhalder can play a strong, dark, sexy vampire, I think he can play a strong, sexy Finnick.

I would cry out of anger if Rob Pattinson got the part of Finnick, he's so not the type, he's too lean, and in my opinon, not that good looking. I really hope he doesn't get the part

i think, if he could bulk up... quite a bit, since he's SO skinny... and get a tan, he would be a good match.

please do not even THINK about putting any of the twilight cast in the movie. sure they are good and all but keep those fandoms SEPERATE. and kellan is way too agressive looking and buff to be finnick, i think someone similar to alex pettyfer, doesnt have to be exactly him but someone like him. robert would be too little of casting, he wouldnt live up to the role, and kellan would be over doing it

Robert Pattinson for Finnick Odair, for Hunger Games period, is wrong. I'm hoping no one from Twilight even touches this series. It's bad enough people have to get on the Team Peeta / Team Gale bandwagon, but putting Pattinson in such an important role when he doesn't fit the character and isn't even that great of an actor... I'm not even for bashing Robert Pattinson. I just don't think he should play Finnick. When I see the movie I want to swoon when I see Finnick, not shrug, not role my eyes, not say, "Oh THAT'S Finnick?" We have hotter hunks. Come on now, Hollywood.

I absolutely do not want Robert Pattinson as Finnick. I think they really have some work do to as far as the next movie goes. The first movie was a HUGE let down. As readers, we immerse ourselves in these stories, invest our time, and when they are made to movies, we want them to be as true to the stories as they can.... I know that no movie can be exactly like a book, I mean, who has 6hrs to sit at a movie.... But at leat try a little harder... I mean, you are bringing these stories to life for us. I guess what I suggest, is that someone who actually read the books, and like them for that matter, should be behind the making of the movie. Also, what is this about the next movie being the sequel? Shouldn't there be 3 movies?

Back to the original question....Rob can totally play Finnick. He is perfect & who I pictured in the role the many times I read the books. But....I thought there was a decision that noone from the Twilight Saga cast could be cast in the Hunger Games.

WOW - everyone needs to chill - it's a movie. Katniss is a character in a movie. This discussion is bizarre. Pretend Katniss is whatever ethnic group you want her to be. She's not a real person so her skin color and nationality is actually quite unimportant. That said, the books are wonderful. Do you know what District you live in? I'm in District 12.

I do like Robert Pattison and I would love him to be in the new movie but not finnick. It's not the right match. They should either leave him out completely or make him a different character. I didn't imagine finnick anything like rob.

No, no, no. Robert Pattinson is definitely NOT Finnick. I hate the comparison of The Hunger Games to Twilight. Both movies are totally seperate an different. I think it should be kept this way. Garrett Hedlund would be the PERFECT Finnick Odair.
