‘Hunger Games’ Casting: Elizabeth Banks and More Join Upcoming Adaptation

The Hunger GamesIn case you haven’t heard, they’re turning The Hunger Games into a live-action film. And in case you haven’t heard, that’s, like, a pretty big deal. Currently jockeying for position at the top of the list of films looking to become "the next Twilight," The Hunger Games has already pleased its growing fanbase by casting Jennifer Lawrence in the role of Katniss Everdeen and Josh Hutcherson as the film’s male lead, Peeta Mellark. Now, various reports have added a few more to the growing ensemble, including Elizabeth Banks (as Effie Trinkett), as well as newcomers Dayo Okeniyi and Amandla Stenberg as District 10 members Thresh and Rue.

The Hunger Games is set in a dystopian future where teens from different districts are chosen to fight one another in gladiatorial death battles. Banks will play Effie Trinket, who acts as an escort for the kids (Katniss and Peeta) from District 12. The character should be a fun one for Banks, too, since in the book she’s described as having pink hair and a green suit. Stylish!

The Hunger Games is currently gearing up for production, which will start very soon since the film is due in theaters on March 23rd, 2012. Do you like the casting choices so far?

I liked the first one A LOT. The second one was slow in the beginning, but it got better as it went on. The third one was OK (It kind of felt like being trapped in a schitzofrenic's head at some parts.) A movie adaptation could be great... or it could be lame.

Josh Hutcherson doesn't seem right for the role. I have like 4 chapters left til I'm done with the first book, he is way too young and doesn't look the role of Peeta. Jennifer Lawrence is cool, she's beautiful and can be serious and deadly at the same time. As for the rest of the cast, it seems workable. Didn't imagine Thresh as a black guy, the way they described him it made him sound more of a huge "Dwayne The Rock Johnson," type of race, simoin or however you spell it. But just by looking at him he looks like he could pull off Thresh, as for Rue she looks perfect for the role. So all in all I'm alright with the casting. At least it'll be better casting, a better storyline and a better movie than the Twilight films.
