Bryce Dallas Howard, The Help
2011 Summer Movies
It is difficult for me to pick just one character for my favorite. I loved them all. However, if I were to choose, it would be Viola Davis. Her character brought me to tears many times during the movie. She also brought me laughter with her jokes in the movie. I loved her in the movie. How did I miss such a great actress before?
I choose EMMA STONE. The character of Skeeter Phelan proved to be an Equal to the Help in many ways: by being transparent; questioning the norm of her day and time; and risking the very possible fatal consequences. Many Whites also died during the Civil Rights Era.
Likewise, each woman who provided Skeeter with factual material for her manuscript also accepted Skeeter as an equal. Relating their innermost fears, trails and triumphs as domestics with her but a far more potent event took place; heroic bravery, displayed and shared by Skeeter and her new allies.
I conject that this lead to Celia Foote, (Jessica Chastain) benefitting an acceptance and guarded friendship with her new maid-en friend, Minnie Jackson (Octavia Spenser) as well.
Viola Davis for sure...she made the movie!
My favorite character was Constantine because she helped Skeeter be the women that she was meant to be not who her mother wanted her to be.
Octavia Spencer killed it as sassy, strong Minnie. But I loved everybody; the movie is so well cast.
Alison Janey because she is hilarious and plays this character perfectly!
It would definitely be Viola Davis. She did a superb job of bringing the character of Aibileen to life. Her character was the glue that bonded the group together.
My favorite actress in The Help would have to be Bryce Dallas Howard. She did an incredible job playing a character that everybody hates. But even in between the hating, I couldn't help but pity her because that is how that society was. The audience got to see the short flashes of humanity in between her characters outbursts narcissism.
It is really hard to say which character I liked the best. I loved them all. But to name one, I'd have to say Viola Davis. In every roll I've seen her in, she has truly lost herself in the role so that you could see the true character that she so well portrays. She pours her heart and soul into every role. I thought she deserved the Oscar for her role in Doubt, but I'd have to say, she truly deserves Oscar this time. The movie itself deserves Oscar; and if this movie doesn't get any winners, them the Oscar committee is treating this movie the same way they treated Color Purple (TURNED THEIR BACKS). I applaud the author, director, screenwriter and especially the actresses.
I love the scene when Octavia Spencer is describing the benefits of Crisco with such affection- beautiful!
Emma Stone is my favorite; she does Skeeter's role justice and really performs well!!
I loved the movie and i am anxious to read the book. very well done movie
WITHOUT A DOUBT CELIA FOOTE.....She portrays this character written in the novel so well!
My favorite is Viola Davis because she played the role really well.
My favorite actress from The Help is Emma Stone. She is truly a great human being. I have loved every one of her movies. She is such a down to earth girl unlike most of the fake girls out there. She is real and does not see color..... only the personality and love that people show. I wish she was popular when I was a teenager. I am 26 now and had slim pickings on role models my age back when I was in high school. She is by far my favorite actress in The Help:)
I love them all but Emma Stone has grown on me in the lase couple months! She is a great actress and this movie really portrayed her talent well!
Octavia is hands down, amazing. She's very skilled as an actress and works with phenominal strength.
All great actresses but I have to say Viola Davis for taking on the role of a maid for this movie.
Sissy Spacek is so good in "down home, real women" roles....and excels in the Southern ones. She has my vote!
The best actress in The Help has to be Emma Stone.
Emma Stone because of her genuine portrayal of the slow progression from naivete in her comfortable social class to awareness, discomfort, shock, compassion, and finally bravery beyond racial and social lines.
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
