Hasbro Toys continues to take their products and give them big screen adaptations. The latest properties set to be converted for your popcorn-munching theater-viewing pleasure will be Hungry Hungry Hippos, Action Man and Monopoly.
Monopoly has previously been in development at Universal, as a comedy with Ridley Scott attached to direct before the studio scrapped the project due to the fallout from Battleship. Scott is still attached to the project as a producer.
Hungry Hungry Hippos, which debuted in 1978, is a game where players compete with plastic hippos to swallow marbles off of a board. Emmett/Furla principal Randall Emmett says that project will be an animated movie aimed at children.
Action Man is a British toy launched in the 1960s based on Hasbro's other hit toy line, G.I. Joe.
While this news will certainly be met with a healthy dose of cynicism, it should be noted that Hasbro's Transformers franchise has grossed over $2 billion at the box office and their G.I. Joe franchise is prepping for a sequel due out next March. In fact, the only blemish comes from this year's Battleship, which sank at the box office due to a combination of apathy and a bloated production budget.
Emmett/Furla still needs to find studio partners to distribute the films.
Hasbro also has two other games-to-movie adaptations already in the works, with the Adam Sandler produced Candyland taking shape over at Sony and Stretch Armstrong eyeing a 2014 release at Relativity.
Do any of these proposed projects? Are there any board games or toys that you'd like to see get adapted into a feature film?

I don't care to see movies based on board games. Take a simple concept and turn it into a full plot? Why not just start from scratch. The nostalgia factor for the game itself has nothing to do with any feelings for the movie itself -- in fact, when I saw the trailer for Battleship, and thought it was linked to the old game, but the trailer seemed to have nothing to do with what the game was actually about (no aliens in the game), this made me definitely NOT want to see the movie. Transformers (and GI Joe) is totally different, as there were many cartoons that were linked to the toy over the past ~30 years. The movies were more of an extension of that universe, where a plot had already been developed. The Robot Chicken bit is awesome!
I would love to see Secret of Monkey Island game from LucasArts be made into a movie. I can see Topher Grace as Guybush Threepwood and perhaps Zoey Zaldano as Mayer Marlee, but who would play LeChuck?
It baffles me and my mind how some people can come out and praise Battleship..granted i haven't see it and likely won't see it but if given the choice i think i would rather watch the other bloated and hated franchise in Transformers....I really wanted to walk out of Transformers 2 but i was out with a friend and his wife so i stay put and mattfan to begin with Battleship wanted to be the next Transformers..no worse than Transformers but still
Too bad they wont let this link show...[BLOCKED WEBSITE]!
It will be a great hit with all of the action sequences:
They should hire Seth Green and his team from Robot Chicken to write the screenplay.
I know I saw a parody trailer a year or so ago for hungry, hungry hippos.
while hollywood is at it, how about, ludo, snakes and ladders, connect 8 and twister -make them into movies I'm sure they will also score big at the box office!
In for Monopoly Candyman and Hippos. Wish Battleship would come out with a sequel
It probably won't because it failed at the box office, but if you saw the credits of it, there is a post credit scene that goes right into the sequel.
You may be right Matt just Universal cancelled Mummy 4 despite plans that were revealed with Mummy 3
Your right fandad, if Universal cancelled The Mummy 4, there is no chance that Battleship 2 will happen.
Ill be okay if they reboot it despite my cousins enjoyed it and agreed it was the summers best movie
I wasn't a fan of Battleship, the effects were cool of course, but I just didn't find it funny and it had a week script. Compared to Transformers, Battleship is junk. But we all have opinions, you loved it, I hated it. Maybe if they happen to make a sequel it could be better.
I would like to see Monopoly, but I find it odd that Ridley Scott is directing a comedy.
You should see Matchstick Men. Very comical and has a great twist.
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
