Last month, Marvel's short list of actors to play the lead role of Peter Quill in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy was revealed. The list included names like Joel Edgerton, Lee Pace, Garrett Hedlund and Les Miserables' Eddie Redmayne.
Variety reports that the short list has gotten even shorter, with Zachary Levi (left) and Jim Sturgess (right) emerging Marvel's top two choices for the role. The site also reports a third "unnamed actor" will also try out for the role.
Sturgess was last seen earlier this year in Cloud Atlas, but has also starred in One Day opposite Anne Hathaway, 21 with Kevin Spacey and the musical drama Across the Universe.
Meanwhile, Levi is best known for portraying the title character in NBC's spy comedy Chuck for five seasons and also voiced Flynn Rider in Disney's Tangled. He's also portraying the warrior Fandral in Thor: The Dark World. Marvel has had their eye on Levi for a while and are said to be impressed with his test screening and are "open to continuing their relationship."
Marvel will most likely make their decision sometime next month, as the movie is slated to begin filming later next year. Guardians arrives in theaters on August 1, 2014.
Now that we have our final two actors, who do you think best fits the Quill role? Does Levi's history with Disney/Marvel give him an inside edge?
Marvel, Guardians of the Galaxy
I also watched The Cat in the hat starring Mike Myers there's no doubt about that
On HBO Family
Ok, do you like that movie
Sure I do I've liked it since I was 11 years old
I liked it when I was a kid too (I loved Mike Myers at the time because of Shrek and Austin Powers) but now I feel like its kind of boring and unfunny but I don't hate it
I still like it but maybe the now in development CGI version will be better
I hope so
They need something full proof
Hopefully they will make it like The Lorax
Yeah but more use of music and a much smarter villain
Because most of the music felt unrehearsed when it was rehearsed and that Mr O Hare was a greedy moron
No, I thought John Powell did a good job with the score.
I know he did a good job just needs some improvements
He has better scores in some of his other movies
I know HTTYD is one example got him his first Oscar nomination
And the movie also made several other mistakes
That's true but overall its a good movie
The Onceler had a much smaller role in the end of the story immediately after telling Ted to plant the last seed then there was no connection between the Onceler and that greedy moron mr O hare. I bet the writers got the idea of his motive of creating the perfect town without nature from Farquad from Shrek
That's one more mistake maybe cat in the hat in cgi will be better but like I said that O Hare was a greedy moron
Sorry about that but I knew you would agree oh and guess what I'm back from seeing cirque du solei
But like you says it was a good movie but not great
Well, Mr. O'Hare probably didn't know if The Onceler was dead or alive and really The Onceler is a big part of the middle or climax of the story. What I find confusing is Ted made no contact with The Lorax at all!
Got what I said
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
