'The Green Hornet' Sequel on Hold; a Slew of New Release Dates You Should Know

OK, let's get the sad news over with first. Well, sad news for Green Hornet and Seth Rogen fans. Producer Neal Moritz spoke with THR saying that although the movie made $250 million and was overall "very well liked," they made the movie for too much money.

Moritz says shooting in Los Angeles and 3D conversion added an additional $10 million to the budget.
 
"If I had done it in a tax-rebate state and not done 3D, it would have been considered a huge financial success for the studio. So we're not making a sequel right now."
 
You're probably wondering why they don't make a non-3D sequel in a tax-break state. Unfortunately, there was no follow-up question. Don't feel too bad for Moritz though. His films have grossed over $5 billion worldwide and he has a huge slate of blockbusters hitting theaters including 21 Jump Street this weekend and the Total Recall reboot later this year.

HBO released a teaser trailer for their romantic drama, Hemingway & Gelhorn, centered on the romance between Ernest Hemingway and WWII correspondent Martha Gelhorn. Clive Owen stars as Hemingway while Nicole Kidman plays Gelhorn.
 
Robert Duvall, Connie Nielsen, Parker Posey, Tony Shalhoub, David Strathairn and Rodrigo Santoro round out an excellent cast. Expect to hear this film being called out when the Emmys are announced later this year.
 

Robert Pattinson's Bel Ami, Piranha 3DD and More Get Release Dates
 
 
Finally, let's take a look at the latest crop of films to receive release dates. First up, the Robert Pattinson drama Bel Ami will arrive in theaters June 8, where it will compete with Madagascar 3 and Prometheus for tickets. Not to mention Kristen Stewart's Snow White and the Huntsman bows a week earlier.
 
Speaking of Huntsman, the Snow White re-imagining will compete with Piranha 3DD which received a June 1 release date.
 
Joe Wright's awards contender Anna Karenina starring Keira Knightley will officially hit theaters November 9, right as awards season is ramping up while Les Miserables inexplicably gets bumped a week later to December 14 where it will contend with the first part of The Hobbit.
 
The Henry Cavill/Bruce Willis spy thriller The Cold Light of Day has been bumped to September 7, where it currently has the entire post-Labor Day weekend all to itself. Previously scheduled for April 6, it would have been competing with American Reunion and Titanic 3D for screens.
 
Last, but not least, two films received release dates for next year. The Robocop reboot will arrive in theaters on August 9, 2013 while the sequel to Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, titled Cloudy 2: Revenge of the Leftovers, is pegged for December 20, 2013.

    I am glad there is no sequel. I do not understand why it gross the amount they did. To me, The Green Hornet is one of the worst movies I ever have seen.
