From 'Dark Knight' to 'Bourne,' The Summer Movies We Can't Wait For. See What Our Staff Picked, Then Tell Us Yours!

Results from a recent Fandango poll revealed that our users consider Joss Whedon’s The Avengers to be the Most Anticipated Movie of the Summer. 
 
The pending blockbuster, which opens on May 4, earned 31% of the votes tallied by men, topping Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises (23%), The Bourne Legacy (14%), Men in Black 3 (8%) and Prometheus (7%). Women polled are looking forward to Snow White and the Huntsman with Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth, earning 22% of the female vote. The only other movie on the female top 5 that didn’t cut it for guys was Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows, which earned 8% of the vote. 
 
All of the above ranked very high with the Fandango editorial team when we conducted an unscientific poll of our most anticipated summer blockbusters. With so many pending thrillers to choose from, narrowing down our favorites was a real challenge. 
 
I went with The Amazing Spider-Man, Marc Webb’s reboot of the web-slinger’s timeless story. Why? Well, I'm a huge Spidey nerd. Always have been. It was the comic book I grew up reading and collecting. At one point, I had thousands of Spider-Man comics bagged and boarded in storage, for preservation. I was pretty bad. So yeah, any time Spidey makes his way to the big screen, I push all of my chips onto the table and bet on a big hit. Plus, I need Amazing to wash the taste of Spider-Man 3 out of my mouth. Topher Grace as Venom? That still makes me shudder.
 
 
“My most anticipated is The Campaign, which opens on Aug. 10. Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis playing rival politicians. I’m so in!” said Fandango Partner Relations Manager John Halecky.  
 
“Pixar’s Brave or ParaNorman for me,” said Liz Guiting, Fandango Data Content Manager. “I’m interested to see what Pixar has in store – so far, Brave looks kind of average, but I hope to be pleasantly surprised.
 
“For ParaNorman, I like the scary-stories-for-kids genre, as well as Coraline. That was from the same filmmakers,” she continued.
 
“I’ll say The Bourne Legacy is the one I’m most looking forward to,” Derrick Deane, Freshly Popped blogger, added. “I honestly had my doubts about this film when it was first announced, but then from what I’ve seen in the trailer, it looks promising. Jeremy Renner has done a good job in The Town, MI4, The Hurt Locker and The Avengers, and with Tony Gilroy returning to write and direct, I think it should have the same sort of Paul Greengrass-type of urgency. The additions of Ed Norton and Rachel Weisz to the cast are just icing on the cake.”
 
 
“For me,” said Contributing Editor Erik Davis, “summer movies are all about remembering the past and looking ahead to the future. So my most anticipated are Moonrise Kingdom (for its eccentric story of young summer love gone rogue) and Seeking a Friend for the End of the World (because I wouldn't mind hanging out with Keira Knightley as the world was ending).”
 
“I’ll have to go with The Dark Knight Rises, To Rome with Love, Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom, Snow White and the Huntsman (not necessarily my cup of tea but I’m a big Charlize Theron fan) and For Greater Glory,” said Fandango Associate Content Editor Elisa Osegueda. “Because it’s about time someone chronicled the Cristeros War and the brave everyday people who led the revolution. Plus, let’s face it, there’s plenty of eye candy – Oscar Isaac, Eduardo Verástegui, Santiago Cabrera and Andy Garcia.”
 
“My must-sees are Prometheus, Expendables 2, Bourne Legacy and, of course, The Dark Knight Rises,” said Stacie Hougland, Fandango’s Executive Editor. “And OK, I’ll admit it, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Because I read the book, and the movie looks suitably over-the-top ridiculous.”
 
 
“Ditto Stacie’s must-sees for Prometheus, Expendables 2, Bourne Legacy and, especially, The Dark Knight Rises,” added Editor-in-Chief Chuck Walton. “Plus Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom. Also, I’ll be re-watching The Avengers 172 times.
 
“I’ll also be looking forward to 7500 on the last weekend of summer, because there’s no way a ghost on a plane could take out our dear friend Ryan Kwanten,” Walton continued. “And it’s directed by the guy who made The Grudge, who rocks.”
 
So tell us, what’s your pick? Which summer blockbuster, or off-the-radar indie, are you most looking forward to? Is it a comedy? A horror? Or a rom-com you can take your sweetheart to?

    For summer picks its, in order, Dark Knight Rises, Avengers, Spiderman, and Prometheus. But my most anticipated is Django Unchained, and Skyfall.

    For summer, I'm most excited for Snow White, Dark Knight, and then Avengers. Snow White and Batman are both gonna be epic! But also looking forward to Breaking Dawn in Nov. I'll be so sad that both Harry Potter & Twilight will be over.

    The Campaign since I know way too much about politics and I'm sick of sequels, prequels and reboots. The exception is Dark Knight because Nolan is brilliant.
