Joss Whedon Talks ‘Avengers’ Script and Female Characters
Would it absolutely crush you if they didn’t make The Hobbit?

"What would you like to see from the Star Trek sequel?"
How about a thin Shatner
the only good things about these Star Trek reboots are the end credits
I think that The Avengers movie will be great as long as it's not just an origins movie for all of the characters and that they actually have a decent villain or two to fight. That's one thing that the Superman movies lacked. REAL VILLAINS OTHER THAN LEX LUTHOR. I'm looking forward to it and the next Star Trek movie as well as I'm sure a Hobbit movie would be nice to round about the series. I saw that a few mentioned the non-existent Halo movie and the only thing I have to say about that is Steven Spielberg, Microsoft and Bungie need to get together and come up with a deal that suits all sides as Microsoft makes some unbelievably real Halo/Halo ODST game videos and I'd love to see what they could do on the big screen.
I think that Star Trek 2 should be about how Kirk meets the mother of his son and such...
Yes it is a great setup to Fellowship. But don't you think that we should leave that to imigination? I mean read the book and then watch the other 3 movies...or better yet, READ THE BOOKS!! In my opinion they are much much better. =0)
I Think That it was Awesome the way they made the latest Star Trek!!:) They Opened it right up for a whole new Saga of Star Trek. The past is dead, and there are only new Travels through the Galaxies... maybe they should name it "Star Trek IIIV" ?? just a thought.
I'm curious to see what they will do with Star Trek 2.
Trekies unite - another Star Trek II or 2 - it's the same. Shatner couldn't play the part unless you put him in a time warp machine and sent him back and he lost a few (quite a few pounds) - Keeping Nimoy is a must - but it would be nice to see some of the other older actors, too.
As for the Hobbit - Bilbo does appear at the very end of it. The animated version was/is very good and a classic - even though it has come out on DVD is is not the same as the original VHS version. If you're going to make a copy then make a copy and not cut things from it.
I actually have all the Hobbit Cartoons on VHS and love them...
Comparing the next “Star Trek” to “The Dark Night” is bold, but can they do it? I was pleasantly surprised with the twist to the old series, and my whole family is hooked. But how do you come back with a sequel everyone will be saying is better than the first? They had better not let anything happen to Lenard Nimoy for the Heath Ledger effect!
Good heavens, The Simmarillion. now THERE would be a light, frothy feel-good movie, (Note the sarcasm dripping all over the place.) I liked it, but I only know less-than a andfull of other people who actually read it.
That said, the Hobbit really does need to be done, and be done RIGHT! (Never got over Orson Bean as Bilbo. Who were they kidding!)
i don't need them to necessarily rush into *releasing* "the hobbit," but it would be nice if they could at least hurry up and start doing *something*. it's just nonsensical that the process has been so dramatic: if everyone involved wants it to happen, and everyone involved knows it'll be tremendously successful [even if it's not stellar, which shouldn't be the case], then cut the drama and make it happen. i was just rereading the book last week and envisioning how nice some of the scenes could be on film... ::sigh::
The ultimate challenge to Peter Jackson - The Silmarillion. I dare you!
LMAO! Interesting to imagine someone one trying to make a movie out of an equivalent to a fictional "reference book". BTW, I'm excited to see how Beorn will be portrayed. He's been one of my favorite characters since I was a child.
I've heard that no mention will be made of Tom Bombadil!
That really sucks! He was another one of my favorites! (However goofy his character may be, lol.)
oh yeah... It's Beorn, not Aragorn!
I agree. Mortensen MUST be Aragorn, Mckellan must be Gandalf. I think we could have a new Bilbo -- but certainly those other three -- also Elrond must be the same!! If only my ranting here mattered!!
Aragorn does not appear in the Hobbit, nor do Frodo, Arwen, Gimli, Galadriel, or for that matter most of the characters from the trilogy. Gandalf, Bilbo and Elrond are really the only major characters to appear in both the Hobbit and the main trilogy so most of the cast will have to be new regardless.
Yeah. Thanks for clarifying that. i was trying to think who we were talking about in "crossover cast" since most of the characters from LOTR do not appear in the Hobbit. I do think it will flop if anyone other than Jackson directs it.
...and YES, it would crush me!
Oh dear GOD I hope they make the Hobbit, with the same feel the LOTR films have. Those movies will never need to be remade, they are perfect. I look forward to the same loving care put into this movie!
I want to see the Hobbit made. Peter Jackson showed what can be done with this story on the Rings films. They were genius. The execs better decide something soon or Jackson and the crossover cast will go elsewhere and it will be far inferior than it should be.
In regards to Trek, I would hope they wont go too over the top with sequel since this Dark Knight comparison has been made. There was always a touch of light humor and I pray that remains. I'm looking forward to this in 3D as we all know Sci-Fi is the optimum genre. As for the alternate universe, that opens the door to a lot of fun possibilities. Kirk? How 'bout T'Pol? Trek always imagines great female heroines, in the mold of Henry Higgins: "Why can't a woman be more like a man?" How beautifully logical.
Peter jackson wants full control of the project and the two rival studios want as much control and profit participation as they can get. Something's gotta give and I just hope it happens soon. This is going to make a bundle so budget shouldn't be that much of a problem ... even in these economic times.
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
