Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane has been selected by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences to host the 85th Oscar Awards ceremony on February 24.
MacFarlane made his feature film directorial debut this summer with the comedy Ted, which he also produced, wrote and voiced the title character. Ted scored over $430 million worldwide and a sequel is currently in the works. He also created animated television shows Family Guy, The Cleveland Show and American Dad. He has earned 13 Emmy nominations and two wins for his work on Family Guy.
"It's truly an overwhelming privilege to be asked to host the Oscars," said MacFarlane. "My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don't find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen Roast."
MacFarlane continues the recent revolving door tradition of younger skewing Oscar hosts. With the exception of last year, which saw Billy Crystal come to the rescue when Eddie Murphy and producer Brett Ratner stepped down, the ceremony has featured Hugh Jackman, Ellen DeGeneres, the unforgettable duo of Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin and the more forgettable duo of James Franco and Anne Hathaway.
The Academy Awards will air live from the Dolby Theater at Hollywood and Highland Center on February 24 on ABC. If you didn't see Ted or haven't seen any of MacFarlane's TV shows, the Academy released this promo video featuring Seth with his dad, giving us a taste of what kind of humor we should expect.
Now it's time for you to sound off. Are you happy to see MacFarlane get the Oscar hosting nod or were you hoping for someone else?

I may hate Family Guy but i will give this guy a chance as long as he does not screw things up
Family Guy is awesome! I don't like American Dad! or Cleveland Show though. The only reason I watch Fox every Sunday night is for Family Guy and The Simpsons. Everything else on there is garbage.
You have your opinions but we will see if he impresses me on the Oscar Stage
Its probably going to be a "Raunchfest".
Or a 2 hour long Family Guy Oscar special.
No way I'm watching that but the real Oscar celebrating Yeah
Im saying that he could make the Oscars like that, not an a Family Guy episode.
Not unless Stewy and Bryan cameo like they opened for the Pimtime Emmys 5 years ago
Its Stewie and Brian, and its Prime time. But yeah they were great at the Emmys, I hope Seth makes a Family Guy movie at some point...
And Peter making a cameo would be cool too!
As long as he does not ruin the show but like I said as long as he does not screw the celebrating up we will be all right
Never mind matt but i can respect your opinion because of how popular Family Guy has been for over a decade
Thanks, I respect you not liking Family Guy, many people don't like the amount of racism or sexism in it. I don't find it offensive since I am American (it sounds racist, but I am white skined) and not gay.
No pal white, but the skin color white.
I'm white too and not gay either
I guess we are both suckers nyuk nyuk
Ha Ha Ha!
I doubt it but it better not interfere with the big celebrating
I wanted Jimmy Fallon to host :(
I wanted Billy Crystal to come back. I'm not a big Seth MacFarlane fan.
Yeah, Billy Crystal was fantastic last year. Maybe he'll host the 86 Oscars.
He bored me a bit
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
