‘Expendables 2’ Moves Forward Without Stallone Directing

By: Erik Davis on March 9, 2011 at 12:12PM Comments (31)

Sylvester Stallone has made it known that he’s had an idea for a sequel to The Expendables for quite awhile now, even before the first one was released. And considering the fact that the ‘80s throwback action flick scored big at the box office ($275 million worldwide), you bet they’re already hard at work on part two. However, as the LA Times points out, Stallone has decided not to direct this time around.

The Expendables

That doesn’t mean he won’t star – he’s just not stepping behind the camera as well, which shouldn’t matter all too much since Stallone is known more for his ass-kicking than his directorial style. The big question as this sequel gears up, though, is whether Arnold Schwarzenegger will join the cast in a larger capacity. Stallone has already said that he wants Bruce Willis to potentially play a super villain, and considering Arnold threw in a cameo in the first film while he was still Governor of California, we assume Stallone is trying real hard to convince the action icon to star alongside him in part two – which, if it happens, will make for one ticket too irresistible to pass up, even if these guys are past their prime.

Are you stoked for an Expendables sequel? Do you think Arnold should co-star, and are there any other action stars Stallone should add to the mix?

Alan rickman as some European arch villain. Alex Baldwin as, well, anything - perhaps some senator with a taste for megalomania and fine wines. Tom hanks as anything.

Expendables 2 would be almost and if Sly can get Arnold in the picture that certainly would give arnold a step back into the movies he has decided to pursue in this stage of his career in hollywood. Bruce playing a supervillain maybe he would probably have to be Mr. Church and have a gruddge against Sly and his men. I hope jason and jet li return and join the sequel and continue their characters role in the picture as well. As for rest of cast is uppose some could stay. be interested to see Arnold bring in a group of otehr 80s actors for his team. A classic showdown between heroes of the 8os vs villains of the 80s action films. Go Sly and let it roll

Jackie Chan and Michelle Yeoh (w/thick Chinese accents) running a mom & pop MEXICAN roach coach near the tattoo shop... Clint Eastwood as a sort of Star Chamber judge, or perhaps President of the US... If JCVD or Seagal accept, both MUST be killed within the first few sequences... Wesley Snipes - no... Mila Jovovich - perhaps a butt-kicking love interest for Statham (maybe DEA or ATF)... Chuck Norris - grisled, hard-drinking former Army Ranger-turned bounty hunter who straddles the line of good & evil, while quoting biblical excerpts... Sean Connery as the "Pope" - to whom Mr. Church reports... And Yin Yang really does have a family, including a son named "Gunner" and 2 beagles named "Tool" and "Barney"...

I thought that the first film was godawful, and will most certainly be actively avoiding doing anything that might come close to duplicating that horrific experience.

Chuck Norris, Jackie Chan, Mila Jovovich. Donnie Yen would be cool, and Michelle Yeoh. Trouble is with so many characters it would be hard to give them all their fair share of time on screen unless it becomes a lengthy movie. And how to place them just right so they all stand out. I think Van Damme should not be high on the list because he had a chance for the first movie and turned it down. But I think Mila can kick just as much butt as the rest! I would also like to see a little more of old style filming. Nix the constant shaky cameras! Older fights and explosions were just as cool and more real.

The cast is amazing, if they bring back Arnold and Bruce Willis that would be awesome. I would love to see them bring in Danny Trejo, Steven Segal and maybe Edward Furlong as a snitch or real slimy double agent. @ Lougna-Wesley Snipes has to stay out of jail long enough to do a role in this movie, plus Snipes is a little old, he's definitely not in the Demolition Man/Passenger 57 days anymore so I'm not sure how many KungFu moves he'll be able to do. I would love to see them bring in Michael C. Hall as a supporting character. He's an amazing actor and can do a very dark role (don't take my word for it, just watch Dexter).

Oh wow, great suggestions! Furlong thrown in there, that would be so unexpected. I like the idea of Michael C. Hall, Dexter's such an awesome show. I'd love to see Snipes. He was fantastic in the Blade movies! Trejo would be great, too. No Segal or VanDamme for me. I would love to see Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson thrown in to join the team. Maybe have a Chuck Norris, Robert Downey, Jr., or Kellan Lutz cameo. Hopefully the storyline of the sequel includes the death of Rourke's character. Tool looked like he was about ready to kick it in the first one.

Yeah I'm obsessed with Michael C. Hall (in a completely heterosexual and non-creepy way of course) and he needs to do more movies because he really doesn't do much and I hate that fact because he has such potential and not to mention he's a great guy in real life (extremely nice not to mention brilliant). Yeah the last time we saw Furlong in a film was a short little while in The Green Hornet and before that he was in the crappy remake of Night of the Demons. I don't think a lot of people hire him anymore which sucks because he's amazing and if he would lose some weight he would be a good looking kid again. And of course Danny Trejo would be awesome, lol, he's a Mexi-Can not a Mexi-Can't

It might be fun to get Steven Segal in a second one. could care less if van damme is tho. I am positive we will see Arnie in larger capacity as well he's pretty old and just dosen't look right for any remakes of his classics, Unless we get a second true lies or a third Conan flick.
