Edgar Wright's 'Ant-Man' May Shoot After 'Thor' Sequel For 2014 Release

We've patiently waited for several years now to see if Edgar Wright's take on Ant-Man would make the leap from rumor to the big screen. Fans got a boost of confidence a couple weeks ago when Wright, along with Marvel co-president Kevin Feige presented "test footage" that had been shot a couple weeks prior to Comic-Con.

Since then, there has been a steady buzz of speculation as to when Wright's Ant-Man would take the next step and go into production and when the finished product would arrive in theaters.

A script for Ant-Man, written by Wright and Attack the Block director Joe Cornish has been completed for several months. Last week, in an interview with Collider, Marvel Studios co-president Louis D'Esposito teased that there might be an opportunity to do three films in one year, leading many to think Ant-Man would fall somewhere in the 2014 release slate.

Additionally, Latino-Review corroborated D'Espotio's statement, saying the plan right now calls for Ant-Man to take over Marvel's London production branch once Thor: The Dark of the World wraps. Thor begins filming in August, meaning Wright wouldn't begin production on Ant-Man until early 2013.

In the meanwhile, Wright will work with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost on The World's End, which begins filming in September. Pegg clued in fans of what Wright's work schedule looked like, following the Ant-Man footage premiere at Comic-Con.

So while Ant-Man hasn't been officially added to the 2014 slate of Marvel films, it certainly appears to be headed in that direction. Marvel's other films opening that year will be Captain America: The Winter Soldier (April 4, 2014) and Guardians of the Galaxy (August 1, 2014).

The hope seems to be that Ant-Man will be introduced to general audiences/non-comic book movie fans and then included into the mother of all superhero movies, The Avengers 2, which is currently targeting summer 2015.

@HoodCritic ..unless they change the name of the Pym particles and make Lang's ability to change size a lab accident. We know how they often take HUGE dramatic license.

I'd almost bet that it would be the Scott Lang Ant-Man, due to him working at Stark Industries after his stint in jail.

No way. Pym is the original Ant-Man who discovered the Pym particles necessary to change size in the first place. It would make no sense for them to use Lang for this movie.

I really hope they get the right actor for Hank Pym and the right actress for Janet van Dyne a.k.a Wasp. I also hope they at least try to get a Black Panther movie off the ground too or at least have Black Panther make a cameo in one of these upcoming Marvel movies.
