In a year of sci-fi movies with outstanding special effects, one of the best of them had to be District 9, which had it all—original premise, humor, suspense, soul, and even allegory. If you missed it, the plot is this: aliens have come to earth, but rather than being welcomed, humans relegate the helpless, ugly, shrimp-like beings to the Johannesburg slums. When one naïve government worker tasked with moving them to a new district has an accident and discovers a secret, the movie turns into an action-packed man-on-the-run tale. Oh, and you somehow end up sort of loving those gross things.
District 9, Extract, (500) Days of Summer
D-9 was a great movie. I sometimes shy away from heavy alien movies but this one was great. I made someone go get it for me the day it came out on bluray, haha! Had to go to three places just to find it, jeez! But it was worth it, I watched it once a day until christmas.
Probably will get District 9 and Family Guy: Something, Something, Something, Dark Side.
P.S. It was Jason Bateman, not Justin, for Extract.
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
