Well, no one said it would be 100 days of good movies. I'm still trying to decide what's more believable – Jake Gyllenhaal as a Persian, or Ashton Kutcher as a secret agent?
During the first half hour of Killers – no, scratch that, the entire hour and a half – I kept thinking, the guy from Dude, Where's My Car is trying to play James Bond...seriously? Seriously.
That would be fine if the whole movie were a send-up. But that's only half-true. You've got Katherine Heigl going through her looney motions as Kutcher's wife of three years who finds out hubby used to be an assassin for the CIA. Catherine O'Hara is on hand, too, doing some crazy shtick as Heigl's constantly inebriated mom.
But Kutcher, in the opening scenes and somewhat throughout, oddly plays it as a straight action dude - the killer who longs to be domesticated but can't when the other killers come calling. And Tom Selleck as Heigl's untrusting, mopey dad just sort of saunters in and out of scenes.
The action scenes are strangely played straight as well, although they never go for broke since this is of course a PG-13 movie.
There's even a cameo from Usher as a store security guard who helps Heigl's character find some home pregnancy tests (yes, you heard that right). In a pointless story, he's equally pointless.
The crowd I saw it with seemed to dig it, so either they're diehard Heigl/Kutcher fans, aren't too demanding of their movie product, or on Day 29 I'm just too tired and missed something. Actually, I did like something about Kutcher's spy movie over Gyllenhaal's romp in the desert. It's shorter.
Which outlet of Ashton Kutcher-dom do you find the most amusing?Market Research
Ashton Kutcher, Tom Selleck, Killers, Katherine Heigl, Usher, Catherine O'Hara
Worst! like some 5th graders put it together once it it...3 years later!
killers was the worst movie ever. It had bad acting, bad writing, and a bad plot.. the trifector of horrible mocies
This movie was great! You seem to show lack of taste in movies! People can change roles that a quality of a good actor/actress. Look at Will Smith , he went for Fresh Prince of Bel-Air to a great movie The Pursiut of Happyness a movie that brought tears to everyone's eyes in the theater! So you go find taste in movies and common sense and come back and review this movie on those terms!
You need to find taste in movies. Just because a movie has a good actor or actress doesn't make it good. And Fresh Prince was a great show that made will smiths career. Also, pursuit of happyness isn't a good movie either. Just because it made people cry doesn't mean it was good.
You seriously need to take a film course or something because you obviously have no clue what makes a movie great. Here's a hint - it ain't the actors who make a movie great, sunshine. "Killers" is, at best, a pathetic attempt to emulate a very good "True Lies"; if you had a scintilla of intelligence you would know this. The only movie I have seen that could be worse than "Killers" would "Gigli"...but I bet you loved that movie too.
YOU accuse someone of lack of taste in movies???How old are ya? This 'movie' had one redeeming quality.Selleck's acting, Note: if you do like something, fine. But don't insult those who didn't.Who,incidentally, know film. You got a lot to learn little girl.
Why are there two of these movies in one summer? Kutcher/Heigl in Killers vs. Cruise/Diaz in Knight and Day. If I wanted to see a cool suburban spy couple flick I'd rent the Pitt/Jolie vehicle Mr. & Mrs. Smith (or even Arnold/Jamie Lee Curtis blockbuster True Lies).
I had high hopes for Katherine Heigl when I first saw Under Siege 2 (not a great film but it was right at the end of Steven Segal's run of fun action flicks). But with the exception of Knocked Up, she hasn't done much to hold my interest.
Agree completely, if I want to watch Mr. & Mrs. Smith, I'll rent Mr. & Mrs. Smith. I'm set to see every movie - good, bad and otherwise - this summer, but so far Killers is at the bottom of the barrel...my favorite role of Heigl's was her small part in Steven Soderbergh's "King of the Hill" (an underrated gem all around).
I would watch anything over Killers
Here is a tip for you the Prince of Persia was a orphan they never actually say in the movie or the games he is of Persian descent.
True, he was adopted. Ok, I'll buy him as a Prince of Persia over Kutcher's secret agent. Still not so sure about Persia as a movie...great effects, but so much going on that I never was quite sure if all of the elements were needed...but I don't know the game, either...what did you think? Live up to the games?
I thought it lived up to the games. It was a better movie than most videogame adaptations. It wasnt a great movie but I enjoyed the ride.
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
