'The Dark Knight Rises' Teaser Trailer: Prepare for an Epic Conclusion

By: Erik Davis on July 18, 2011 at 10:29AM Comments (21)

It has arrived! The first teaser trailer for The Dark Knight Rises is sure to send a chill throughout the body of any fan of this outstanding franchise, with the entire crew (plus more) returning for the final film of a trilogy that hasn't let anyone done yet. It'll be difficult to top The Dark Knight, but Christopher Nolan is a man who likes a challenge.

We were hesitant at first when we heard the length of this teaser (roughly a minute and a half), but there's nothing to spoil here. It looks as if Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman) is all banged up and in really bad shape (for real this time), and in this teaser we see him clinging onto life inside a hospital while begging Bruce Wayne/Batman to return.

The dialogue is a bit unclear, but we think it goes something like this ...

Commissioner Gordon (in the bed): "We were in this together, then you were gone. Now this Evil rises. The Batman.....has to come back."

Bruce Wayne: "What if he doesn't exist anymore?"

Commissioner Gordon: "He must.... he must."

The all-too-brief shots of Tom Hardy as Bane show a formidable opponent for Batman, though we imagine our hero will have other demons to conquer in his final round. No sign of Catwoman (Anne Hathaway) yet, however we imagine Warner Bros. will throw something down at Comic Con and we bet it'll involve the reveal of Catwoman's get-up.

Check out the first teaser at Facebook or via the embed below (thanks to The Film Stage for the embed), and let us know what you think. The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters on July 20th, 2012.

Was that Bruce in jail? Maybe he gave away his identity? Either way this teaser was crazy, especially that last bit. Summer 2012 should hurry up

Tear-jerking scenes of our Commissioner Gordon in the Hospital: my heart is breaking right now (he better not die!)...'his a major character in all the BATMAN-DARK KNIGHT Classic Franchise. It looks deathly dangerous and BATMAN is gonna have to Bat-up and put on some steely musle strengths for Bane is one deadly character to go up against...'Bruce Wayne/Batman is gonna need some serious back-up. Which leaves me to wonder...'will the dark-wing Robin come into this new DARK KNIGHT Rises movie somehow, I hope so!!! Not that Bruce/Batman can't take on this Villians but there's a bunch of them in this film. So it's only fair that Batman-Actor Christian Bale has an allie, too! Looking forward to C. NOLEN's DARK KNIGHT Rises in 2012! Can't wait.

This is the end of batman (there was a scene of Wayne in a prison?), Gordon knows he is Batman, and Bane is going to be one difficult opponent to beat (is he connected somehow to razalgul as well?) The anticipation is literally killing me.

There wasn't anything that was awe inspiring in this teaser. Bane looked silly. There was no tension. It was nothing like "The Dark Knight" teaser. Just hearing Jokers voice made me melt with anticipation.

I agree with you on one point: it doesn't even compare to the dark knight teaser. That made the trailer itself look stupid. The teaser was made however when the movie was fully completed, unlike this one with production only part of the way thru. But Bane didn't look silly, I thought he looked fantastic! And just seeing him made my heart freeze.

Maybe it is because I never really heard of Bane until recently. (And I grew up on the 90s cartoon of Batman)After hearing about him for this movie I saw him on Young Justice and that’s about it (he was cool on that). And regarding the teaser the mask he has just looks too corny, fake and big to me. It doesn't look up to par of realism that comes with Nolan's work. It just looks like some bald guy with an oversized and goofy looking half mask. I'm sure the whole movie will be great (I hope) it's just I can't help but feel these negative things about the awkward looking Bane.

ok now I know where your coming from,I too grew up on the Batman the animated series that aired during the 90's and I cant remember if they showed Bane that much.I don't know im not going to judge anything off this teaser because I only saw Bane for only several seconds within the trailer. It's going to be interesting in this film because for sure Nolan will have Bane break the back of Batman during the movie which will ridiculously awesome.

I expected Bane to look a like he did on the Wikipedia page that had his history but I disagree that he looks awkward. Even though the trailer was short I found him a little intimidating but I need a broader look at him before I come to any conclusions. A villain like Bane is uncharted territory for Nolan because no director has ever cast him in a lead villain role but I expect Nolan to be faithful to Bane's origin story. He's one of the most dangerous and intelligent adversaries the Dark Knight has ever gone toe-to-toe with.

He kind of looks like Hannibal Lecter in the teaser. If they could pull him off, I'm sure Bane would be a cakewalk.
