Yesterday, we reported on how Kevin Feige teased the over-arching approach Marvel Studios will be taking in the run up to Avengers 2, including some insight into the first movie of the "Phase Two" line-up, Iron Man 3.
Today, MTV News reports that Feige has confirmed that two Marvel characters will be getting their first stand-alone movies as part of the studio's "Phase Three" line-up.
We've known for a while now that Edgar Wright's Ant-Man would be hitting theaters on November 6, 2015 making it an obvious inclusion into the "Phase Three" package. Feige has confirmed that Doctor Strange will be joining the "Phase Three" line-up.
"Doctor Strange, which I've been talking about for years, is definitely one of [the Phase Three movies]. He's a great, original character and he check s the box off this criteria that I have: he's totally different from anything else we have, just like Guardians of the Galaxy. He's totally different from anything we've done before, as is Ant-Man, which keeps us excited."
Feige didn't announce a target date for Doctor Strange, though we can assume it will arrive sometime in 2016 or 2017, allowing fans plenty of time to debate who would be the perfect actor to play the part and who should direct.
Feige also talked a bit about the overall approach to "Phase Three," saying that the third stage will look to bring new characters to the big screen.
"So much of the stories w're telling [right now] is about the core Avengers characters we've now met, and they'll be evolving in big, surprising ways, in Cap's next movie and Thor's next movie and of course, Iron Man 3, as we get them all into the next Avengers film. Beyond that… Ant-Man is the only one officially announced, but you probably don't have to look too far to guess at the next list of characters we're toying with and beginning to develop."
Are you excited to see Marvel lock in Doctor Strange as part of their "Phase Three" movies? Who would you cast and who should direct? What other Marvel characters are you hoping Feige and the Marvel team bring to the big screen?

Didn't they say it was supposed to come out in 2014?
As far as I know, a "Black Panther" movie has yet to be given the green light for production. I don't even know if anyone has penned the idea of a Black Panther flick.
Let's be real! Ant-Man and Dr. Strange? How relevant are these characters in the Marvel Comic Universe? I see that the film industry is just wasting time and money to be creating movies on some dead beat characters that nobody gives 2 cents about. Marvel needs to be focusing on the money makers, or thinking about making the Deadpool movie that was rumored to come out.
Well Ant-Man is originally one of the founding members of the Avengers, so I've heard. He does have an impact on the Marvel universe, like creating the villain Ultron. As for Dr. Strange, it is up in the air with him. He is a lesser known hero but he is a powerful and formidable character. I can see why he would be integrated into the Avengers universe.
What you are saying is interesting
You need to get educated on these subjects before you start blabbing on every single article... most of your comments aren't even relevant
Please God I hope you aren't for real.
While I agree that Ant-Man is kind of a stretch as far as considering him as a character worthy of his own feature, I think The Sorcerer Supreme is a wise choice that will fit nicely within the blending of magic and science that they are touching on with the cosmic cube. I have heard that Patrick Dempsey was considered for the role. I for one am willing to give Dr. Strange a chance.
Patrick Dempsey? A while back, I heard a rumor that Viggo Mortensen would play Dr. Strange but that I guess that is why they are rumors.
Yeah! I just read about that he was set up to be cast as Doctor Strange but it may of just been a rumor.
Better not be worse then the last airbender casting
I'm looking forward to Ant-Man and Doctor Strange but does this mean none of the characters from Phrase two & one are going to return?
Evans (Capt. America), Hemsworth (Thor) and Ruffalo (Hulk) all signed six-picture deals with Marvel. Evans and Hemsworth will have two pictures left following Avengers 2. Ruffalo has only done one Marvel film, so there's a good chance Hulk could get a standalone pic in Phase Three. Downey also had a six picture deal, but his contract will be fulfilled upon completion of Avengers 2, so unless he signs a new deal, he'll be done.
Did Downey's cameo in The Incredible Hulk count towards his six-pic deal
That's a gray area that depends on the fine print in each actor's contract. For the most part, their contracts are for starring or supporting roles. Cameos are more than likely a separate deal.
I don't think Marvel would get rid of them completely, they might have cameo roles or even be part of the plot
I agree. They may just have one-off contracts once their mega-deals are fulfilled to appear in supporting roles in Phase Three films. Of course, it all depends on where Marvel wants to steer their product once Avengers 2 is done.
Hope their contracts are renewed
I hope so too matt

"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
