Last week we reported that actor Frank Grillo had traveled to Los Angeles for a meeting with the folks over at Marvel to potentially play Red Skull's right hand man, Crossbones, in the upcoming Captain America sequel due out April 2014.
This afternoon, Variety confirms that Grillo has indeed landed the villain role.
Meanwhile, as per the Marvel movie universe of characters crossing into one another's films, Comic Book Movie has confirmed that Cobie Smulders, who debuted as Maria Hill in The Avengers will appear in the sequel alongside Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury and as previously reported, Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow.
It appears now the only piece left to cast is the Sharon Carter/love interest role, which hasn't seen any major development over the past few weeks.
Chris Evans is, of course, returning as Captain America, along with Sebastian Stan in the titular role of The Winter Soldier aka James Barnes. Anthony Mackie is set to play Sam Wilson aka The Falcon and Hayley Atwell is rumored to cameo in the film.
Fury plays a significant role in the comic book storyline and Black Widow has a romantic and professional history with The Winter Soldier. Maria Hill, however, is being added to the original Ed Brubaker storyline, though her appearance will most likely amount to a brief cameo.
Since Marvel likes to overlap their characters into their various films, who else would you like to see cameo in Captain America: The Winter Soldier?

Isn't he going to make a cameo in the post credit scene in Iron Man 3?
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
"Squirrel!"
