Are you feelin’ lucky, punk? If you manage to get your hot little hands on the impressive new Clint Eastwood collection gift set, Clint Eastwood: 35 Films 35 Years at Warner Bros., you most certainly will be.
The largest box set ever released for a single artist, it contains 34 Eastwood classics plus a new 22-minute short film called The Eastwood Factor by movie critic Richard Schickel with clips, interviews and more behind the scenes info. Since these are limited to Warner releases you’ll note the lack of the spaghetti westerns (and one of my favorites, Play Misty for Me), but that’s a small price to pay for the massive compilation of the movies that define the man’s career: The Dirty Harry films, The Outlaw Josey Wales, Unforgiven, The Bridges of Madison County, Million Dollar Baby, Gran Torino, even those orangutan movies. And while you’re popping in the first of this 18-disc behemoth, check out the 24-page booklet insert by Schickel with an intro by Clint himself that contains more details and photos on the movies. This set is not available on Blu-ray and you won’t find a lot of new extra features, but for movie buffs who just want to appreciate the movies in Eastwood’s four-decade career and will love the slick collectible packaging, this is a great start.
(Available Feb. 16, retail $179.98)
