Summit Entertainment has decided on a release date for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: November 18th, 2011. Interestingly enough, there's no mention of a two-part movie, so either Summit is hanging onto the two-parter announcement for strategic purposes (maybe to announce prior to Eclipse hitting theaters or something), or, well, we're only going to get one film and not two.
Eclipse, Breaking Dawn
I would love to see 2 movies. I think Stephenie's book deserves that. There is just soooo much going on in Breaking Dawn, that unless the movie is almost 4 hours long it could not cover it. I would hate for some of the best parts of the book to get cut because Summit only wants to release on movie. (Besides profit-wise wouldn't it make more sense to have 2 Films.) I know as a fan I would have preferred Twilight and New Moon to have been a little longer. Can't wait to see Eclipse or Breaking Dawn when it's finished.
I think that two movies would be great. There is so much to cover in Breaking Dawn that it would have to be extremely long or have lots of stuff cut out(which most Twilight Fans would disagree with). I can't wait for June 30. Now I have to wait 18 months for BD. Whatever am I gonna till then? Reread Twilight again I am sure.
Gone with the wind was great with a break in the middle. It broke box office records and still today is a wonderful popular film. i think they should use that movie as thier model. my guess is that it will make less profit to make it like that vs the double tickets they would want. i think they have proven they want to milk the francise for all they can and so i doubt they will do what the fans would love, a 4 hour mega film. they will also need to consider the avails and cost of the greatly popular core cast talent which will be difficult to schedule for a fifth film. so they may go the way of the last harry potter movie and shoot both at once then release seperatly. that's my guess as to what they will do.
Let's see New Moon made $709 million worldwide. And say Eclipse makes $800-825 million. You are Summit Entertainment : Do you want to make one movie that might get close to a Billion plus all the merchandising/DVD residuals. Or two movies that might make a billion each? It's simple math! Two billion is better than one billion. Besides we aren't ready for our Twilight Party to end so soon now are we? Don't we love all the build-up, hype and anticipation? It's like the first time you picked up Twilight and Bella sees Edward across the room- you want more and you want don't want that fascination to stop. Summit loves to keep us guessing. Creates a good buzz for them.
Two movies is a must. The first film did a shotty job at getting in all the good details that should have been included in the movie. With two films, you will give the reader what they deserve!
Two movies, and forget the 3D ....
I also agree the release date for the movie on November 18, 2011 is a smart move. This would give Mr. Bill Condon the ample time frame he needs to beginning filming and recording Breaking Dawn. Also, it's large stretch for Mr. Condon & Summit to make Breaking Dawn in two films and not one. So please begin with the shooting of this film as soon as possible Summit & Mr. Condon. We are in the middle of May and you have 17 months to make our final book come to life in front of our eyes. This is enough time to shoot all the important details of this book and keep all the Twilight Fans happy. Good Luck & give the fans what they want: A well deserved ending to The Twilight Saga...... I think that it is entirely possible to make this book into one film and I honestly hope they do it that way. I liked Twilight, but I felt like the 4th book could have been made quite a bit shorter than it was.
If it was one film, it wouldn't have to be long. In Twilight, there's no conflict until 300+ pages in. And since they had the film follow it pretty exactly, there was no conflict in the film 'til 20-30 minutes before its end. And plenty of that first hour and some could have been taken out. No doubt the 4th book has content that can be taken out and it won't suffer. Only hardcore fans that want every detail in believe it needs to be two films. Harry Potter managed 800-900 page books in 2 hours. The last film is in 2 parts because there's a lot of information needed that the other films left out (that they didn't realize were so important to the conclusion), PLUS everything that needs to be included from yet another 900 page book.
Actually moveonjenkins I find the Harry Potter movies to lack in descriptive detail information as well. When I saw the movie I felt there were scenes that needed more explanation. So in a way I would need to disagree in a shorter version of Breaking Dawn. There are some key elements in this book that need to be mentioned to give us a good movie. One part I truly don't care for is the Graduation party Alice throws in the house. That can be overwritten to just Graduation and a quick family meal. Now the parts of the Honeymoon don't need to be so descriptive I know daytime & some teenage movies I have seen have shown a nice clean romantic moment without any Rated R material. Also the Volturi's need to be explained quite well too.
I agree that Harry Potter could use more information in the movie, but they get by without doing so. Twilight could most definitely get by with less - that was my point. Someone wrote a 3-4 paragraph summary of each chapter in Breaking Dawn and they got in everything.
I agree Jedlander, why make the romance scenes so explicit, that would ruin the softness of the movie, turning in from a romance to a XXX flick. As far as the Volturi's I agree they need to go into alot of detail about them they play a key role in the upcoming movies.
I definitely agree with all the previous post. Breaking Dawn is my favorite book and the culminating story of the Twilight Saga. This film needs to be made in two parts for the fans sake. There is too much detailed information written in the book by our Awesome Author Stephenie Meyer's. It would be extremely devastating for the fans to not experience the joy of this amazing culminating story. This book definitely needs to be made in two parts. Also please scratch out the thought or the idea of making it a 3-D film. It would love it's classic romance and tale. The Twilight Saga was not made for 3-D effect. The most difficult character of this book would be Renesmee and we can all agree to create her as a CGI character. Jedlander2001
Okay first I have to agree Jedlander this has to be a two part film as you said for the fans sake, there is no way with all the details in the book that this could be made into one film it would be ludacris and important key points would be skipped leaving many people very unhappy. And since you brought up the topic of 3-D it would be a horrible idea for the Twighlight Saga, its a love story not an action movie. I have to be one of the few guys that actually like the Twighlight movies and to be honest I'm not affraid to admit that, putting it in 3-D would ruin the whole experience and movie for me as it did for Clash of the Titans which was a great movie except in 3-D.
Finally another person who feels the same way I do. I love Clash of the Titans as well and felt that it lacked alot of the storyline due to it's 3-D effects. Also, point well said Twiligth is a love story not an action movie to be turned in to a 3-D action flick. Thank you Sylar for being the one male who stand strongly on our female view... I bow my head down to you....
LOL no need to thank me at all, the world lacks one thing now a days in my opinion.....originality. I think Twighlight brings that to the table, along with M. Night Shyamalan, I know alot of people are not a fan of his and don't like his ideas on the big screen, but honestly I think he is one of the better directors to date. I have always been a fan of the Twighlight books and the movies have done pretty well thus far I'm hoping they continue to.
Def. Two Movies and NO 3-D! Leave a cliff hanger as she is nearly dead in labor....And while you mention M. Night, everyone needs to go out in July and support "the Last Airbender"! My whole family loves the animated "Avatar: The Last Airbender" and REALLY hopes it translates well into Live action!!!
I agree I think the last airbender is going to be a great movie, I'm very excited to check it out. I was one person who unfortunately wasted my monet to watch the Avatar movie this year, I'm probably one of the few people who didn't dig it, but I found a movie full of blue people and flux vortexes unentertaning. I'm hoping that the Airbender movie does not disapoint me like Avatar did.
The only thing about two movies is we have to wait for the next one to be released, and I just can't wait to see them!!! :) Two movies would definitely show the detail that Breaking Dawn would require to really make it a great film...
I definetly think there should be 2 films..the book was just too detailed and too much info to cram into one movie they would cut out too much. We will all just have to be patient and look forward to the second one. Hopefully that is what they will do. I am very curious how they are going to play the whole adult story line out...interesting. Looking forward to it:)
two movies definately. With all that happens it has to be. I could set through a 5 hour Twilight movie I don't think many people would attempt it.
I think it should be 2 movies. There is too much going on in the last book and to really appreciate the story and not cut too much out, it would be best in two parts. As a fan, I would be disappointed with one movie with too much cut out. Breaking Dawn is my favorite book and I would love to see more of it.
For one, who cares what they've decided....if it's two part or one. Whatever. When they decide, they decide. And I HOPE they don't follow along like all these other morns who make movies in 3D. It's annoying. Now we have Step up, dancing in 3D, even concerts! Helllloooo people....3D isn't that great for every type of Movie.
And I was saying "Who cares", to the article :) The article made it sound like so much was hanging on just that! ha-ha - I hadn't read any of the comments. It would be GREAT if they could keep as much detail as possible from the book in the movie - so 2 parts would be better!
It definitely needs to be two films. There's no way to elegantly address Breaking Dawn into a single two and a half or even three hour movie. I hope that Summit does the right thing. If they focus on telling a great story, the fans and the dollars will be there. Oh ... please skip the 3-D thing, so unnecessary!
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
