Good news for you Jason Bourne fans is we will be getting a fourth installment in the 'Bourne' franchise called 'The Bourne Legacy.' Bad news: The film won't feature the character of Jason Bourne, nor will it star Matt Damon. Um, what?
Matt Damon, Tony Gilroy, The Bourne Legacy
I haven't seen the movie yet, but I have read the book, which has a whole different theme by the sounds of things. The books and the movies are so far apart that it is ridiculous to call them by the same titles. In the books Mary is still alive, they have kids, and Bourne is middle aged.
If this film has the crisp fight scenes and intricate well acted plot of the first 2 (and somewhat the third) then it will succeed, but it will always be 'the Bourne movie(s) after Damon', just like 007 is often identified by the actor playing Bond.
I truly hope they do a great job, I've been dying for a movie of the caliber of The Bourne Identity/Supremecy for years.
And Matt Damon is still friggin hot!
Yeah, stupid idea and couldn't imagine it will do well if people know that the Bourne character and Damon aren't in it. Waste of effort, time, and money.
I've read 8 Bourne books, from "The Bourne Identity" to "The Bourne Objective" and, oddly enough, they all focus on the title character. Granted the series was carried on by Eric Van Lustbader with the approval of the Ludlim estate, however it's still been a different author after the first three books. Rather than a Marvel movie without Marvel comics, I'd consider it more analagous with the many other movies that ignore the book for money's sake. I doubt the series will last a whole eight movies if the studios insist on going one up on straying from the story as written to rewriting the story altogether. This comes off as a shameful money-making exploitation of a solid series.
Matt Damon and Greengrass have to continue this. These are excellent movies and they both make it happen. I would still watch the movie but I know that it will not work out the way it needs to. Please Please brind back Damon and Greengrass
I am completely sadden that Matt Damon a.k.a Jason Bourne will not be returning. One of the reasons I've enjoyed watching the other three is because of Matt Damon. The plot doesn't seem the same without him and to not have him apart of Bourne Legacy is ludacris. I'll continue to support the film but believe I will not be sitting happy about this one.
The book still has the Jason Bourne character, it however revolves around his son from his first marriage, they may have a problem casting Bourne as a middle aged man with a 27 year old son
Hopefully it won't suffer the same problems as Jack Ryan (Hunt for Red Oktober, Patriot Games, etc...). The first of the series Red Oktober, much like its star Alec Baldwin was excellent. The franchise was merely good after that with Harrison Ford, but once they brought Ben Affleck into the picture, it just tanked horribly.
There's always hope in the carrying on of a legacy, but it often fails miserably... Trying to recreate magic is a difficult task.
Remember that Bourne Legacy was not written by Ludlum, but rather by Eric van Lustbader. Not the same author, and the character changed when that happened. With that said, a reboot would work better since you are changing so much.
This is going to be worse than casting Rob Schneider as a supporting actor in Judge Dredd. Ha ha. Just ridiculous.
Although I think Matt Damon is great in this series, I think the storyline itself has enough momentum to carry it forward and give it potential. Still would have been better with Damon in it though.
No Damon or Jason Bourne? No thanks.
They would be better off just recasting Jason Bourne instead of introducing a new (and contrived) lead character.
UGGGGGHHHHH Really a Bourne flick without Bourne!!!! I officially believe holllywood is clueless here. No I will not go see it! I would n't even see Green zone! If it's a bournwed movie it should have Jason Vourne in it. END OF LINE!!!
The BOURNE Legacy but no Bourne. How do you think the movie will do. It's like making a movie called "007 My Name is Bond" staring Peter Hutchinson from apartment 2b. This is just hollywood executives using the bourne name to make money. EPIC FAIL.
I totally agree with you it's just pointless.
NO, it will not be the same... might as well be a different movie all together if Matt and Greengrass are not working on it, it like making a pirates movie without pirates !or a John Wayne movie without John Wayne. just don't make the movie or call is something else and disconnect it from the bourn films.
would you want to bee a movie without harry potter,or batman,or how about a marvel movie without marvel hereos, might watch it on cable maybe wtf
I think it will still be successful, besides Damon is old. It's time to introduce a new hot young actor to replace him. I love the three movies and look forward to this one.
"...Matt Damon is old" ??? Uh Duh, characters age just like people do. It wouldn't make sense to have a series that takes place over several years and have the character always be the same age. That being said, I'm open to some new twists and turns in the saga. I'd watch it.
he is 41, he should be 55 or so for the Bourne timeline.
New hot actor too replace him like who ? Where is this new hot actor id like to see him because i think you made a ridiculous statement. Not too many young actors out there right now can make this Bourne series any good in my mind.
that's pretty ignorant.
For some reason I am thinking about the Supergirl movie.
I dont think it will be as seccessful, but I would still watch it.
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
