'Batman 3' Rumors Heat Up: Riddler Is the Villain?

Joseph Gordon-LevittIt’s been pretty obvious for awhile that Christopher Nolan’s next Batman film would feature The Riddler as the main villain. It’s the villain the fans have wanted for some time now, and the one that makes the most sense – especially since he’s sort of similar to the Joker in that they both love to play mind games, and the Joker was what helped The Dark Knight earn all that moola at the box office (and, ahem, an Oscar win for Heath Ledger).

Rumors have been swirling that Joseph Gordon Levitt would be the best choice for Riddler, probably because he’s got that whole skinny-snarky thing going on. Plus, the fact that Gordon-Levitt just starred in Nolan’s Inception doesn’t exactly hurt the situation.

The latest gossip comes from First Showing, who claim they’ve gotten a look at what’s called a “studio casting grid” for the next Batman film. Essentially this is an internal document that lays out all the casting for a film – from who’s been offered roles to which actors have scheduling conflicts and everything in between. Well, apparently this sheet listed The Riddler as the villain and Gordon-Levitt as being “interested” in the role. Will he do it? We don’t know. Is this information accurate? We don’t know. But I definitely believe Riddler will be in the next film, and if he is I think I’d want Gordon-Levitt to play him.

What do you think? Should Joseph Gordon-Levitt play The Riddler in Batman 3, or should they get someone else?

I'm a big fan of Joseph Gordon-Levitt and I think he would do a great job as The Riddler. People knew Heath Ledger and could name a handful of his movies pre-Christopher Nolan, but it was The Dark Knight that really shot him into superstar territory. Maybe this is what Gordon-Levitt needs to make him more of a household name.

He'd do fine. And to all you idiots talking about Jim Carrey: Frank Gorshin was the original Riddler.

I think JGL would be perfect. He is a fantastic actor. Though seeing Johnny Depp as the Riddler would be something wonderful.

For all of you naysayers out there about Levitt...when it was announced that Heath Ledger would be The Joker in The Dark Knight, people were OUTRAGED. "How could they pick Brokeback Mountain?? Jack Nicholson is the ONLY Joker! Etc, etc., etc. Then - -after it was released, people lost their f**king minds over how amazing Heath Ledger was in the role, even going so far as to call HIM the DEFINITIVE JOKER. I agree. SO -- before we start spewing crap like Jim Carrey (who I personally like a lot) let's remember the lesson learned with Heath, and also remember HOW AWFUL the Joel Shumacher Batman films really were. Go back and watch Batman Forever, and then watch The Dark Knight, and THEN you can tell me how great Carrey would be.

Any one who believes Jim Carey should be the Riddler is absolutely retarded. He sucked in the old batman franchise as the Riddler, don't believe me watch it again. I thought that was a good batman until I watched it recently and i realized how terrible it was. I think also that Joseph Gordon Leveitt could reprise the Joker in a small part. he looks alot like Heath Ledger and he is a good actor, but this could only be done if Joker had a small part cause i would not want it to over or under shadow heath ledger. Out of all the suggestions for the riddle that i have seen i think that Crispin Glover was the best so far. I also believe (even though i hate him) that Ashton Kutcher would be good, he is tall, skinny, funny and can be serious.

How about Denis Leary as the Riddler! He would be a good fit.He has excellent acting skills and a standup comic background. He would follow in the footsteps of Frank Gorshwin the original Riddler from the 60's era Batman. What made his Riddler so funny was Adam Wests deadpan acting style.Christian Bale's Batman versus Denis Leary's wise cracking Riddler.

Leary would be pretty cool, but they'd definitely lose the PG-13 if they tried to use a tenth of what Leary could bring to the role. Not sure if I'm ready to hear Riddler, while chain smoking (of course), say, "I think you hear me knockin', Bats. And I think I'm comin' in. And Robin? Yeah, he's with me. Wants his *** cherry back. Think you can do that, tough guy?" (sucks very hard on his cigarette, the tip glowing hot red as the cigarette burns half-way down, then blows smoke in Batman's face with a long loud raspberry).

I personally think that Christopher Eccelston would make the best Riddler. He looks the part and he proved he can be a bit nutty when he was Doc Who

Johnny Depp should be in the Batman movies but there is probably a better Batman villain choice for him. For instance, there are characters like the Mad Hatter or Hush. I've been saying Levitt for years to play the riddler.

He would be a good choice, also he has been in 'incepcion' the last film of Nolan and Nolan used to repite actors in his films like Michael Caine, Christian Bale, Cillian Murphy... But I heard that in Batman3 the riddler is going to be Jonhy Deep who is a good choice too.

Carey is an alltime favorite of mine, but no,not in Nolan's Batman. Depp is pretty amazing, but we need someone fresher. I go with Levitt. I think Bettany is a great idea, but i am not as sure of him as i am of Levitt. I am ready for Depp to do more non made up roles. Public Enemy,Nick of Time,Gilbert Grape,Secret Window....i want more of these.

Agreed, Johnny Depp's weird fantastical characters are getting old, Gilbert Grape and Blow are some of his more impressive performances; they're deep, real characters.
