This contest is now closed. It was a close Showdown, but Hawkeye topped Fury 113-88, with two draws. Check back tomorrow for a new Avengers Showdown!
OK Avengers fans, it's time for another Showdown. We'll save the heavy hitters (Iron Man, etc.) for next week, but for opening weekend, it seems almost right to feature the guy who recruited our heroes, Nick Fury. And since we purposely avoided the messy love affair between Hawkeye and Black Widow last week, it seems we should shine the spotlight on the archery assassin. We'd love to pit him against Katniss from The Hunger Games, but we'll just have to wait for some kind of a Marvel-Hunger Games crossover. Until then, let's take a look at this week's combatants.
In one corner, he's the one-eyed wonder of perpetual youth (as long as he gets his injections of the Infinity Formula). The director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Fury is a skilled combat veteran of three wars – World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam. He was a heavyweight boxer in the army and holds a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and a brown belt in Jiu Jitsu, not to mention he's honed his combat skills sparring with Captain America. Here are his Marvel stats courtesy of Marvel.com:
In the other corner, is Clinton Francis Barton, otherwise known as Hawkeye. Hawkeye possesses no superhuman powers, but he is an expert marksman, acrobat and fencer. He too has been expertly trained by Cap in hand-to-hand combat and martial arts. But let's not kid ourselves, Hawkeye's strength lies in his array of trick arrows and keen eyesight. Here are his Marvel stats courtesy of Marvel.com:
So who wins this Showdown and why? Would Fury make it a hand-to-hand slugfest or would Hawkeye pick Fury off from a distance?
Let us know below. We'll randomly pick a winner from the comments below (one comment per entrant). You must be 18 or older to enter and this contest runs until 11:59 p.m. PST on May 8, 2012. The prize? A $25 limited edition Avengers collectors gift card. You can also purchase them here.
Good luck Avengers fans. And if you're curious who won last week's showdown, Captain America rallied to topple Black Widow 194-156, with six draws, a few indecisive comments and one vote for the Hulk.
Jeremy Renner, The Avengers, Samuel L. Jackson
Fanboy Fix, The Avengers
Fury's been beating guys outside his weight class since WWII. Plus, he fights dirty. Edge to Fury.
Samuel L. Jackson wins cuz he is Samuel L. Jackson
Nick Fury takes this one.
Hawkeye wins this battle hands down. While Nick is very smart and well trained Hawkeye with his specialty arrows would make Nick Furry easy prey and Nick would not even get close enough to Hawkeye to get a shot in.
Hawkeye would win because he can take Fury out from a distance and hold his own in hand-to-hand combat
Hawkeye would win over Nick Fury, but would be a good fight
I like things best when they are on the same side, but I have to vote Hawkeye.
Nick Fury....sneak up from behind..
Hawkeye wins ....hands down!
We must analyze BEFORE we say who "wins", despite personal preference.
1 STATS. The 6 Official Stats put Hawkeye with 2 points more in Intelligence ("book sense"), and 1 point more in Energy Projection & Speed. Basic stats: Hawkeye should win.
2 EXPERIENCE. Hawkeye has had issues with authority and teamwork at times. Nick has had a century to learn people skills, new technologies, secrets, plan strategies, survive 3 wars, continually lead a large task force for years, & adapt to changing environments. Nick's "common sense" & cunning are reflected in this, but not as a quantitative stat like intell. XP: Nick should win.
3 Nick's cunning, strategic planning, social network, & experience would win over the small stat difference.
Scarred warriors have been taking young bucks to school forever, there's no shame in it, and Nick Fury has as much experience and skill as lots of those guys put together. Fury has survived lots of snipers and Hawkeye is just a sniper with a bow an arrow. The only question is would Fury fall asleep during the contest.
Whether you consider Sam Jackson or Nick Fury, he's going to win. Sure, Jeremy Renner/Hawkeye will make it one helluva fight, but in the end, Jackson/Fury is one bad *** mofo. He's tougher and has way more experience. Hawkeye will get lured into the false sense he's winning, then, bam! Nick Fury pulls out some secret plan and Hawkeye is done for. I'm not saying Fury won't have some extra battle scars, but he's the one walking away from this fight.
Definitely Hawkeye... fighting hand to hand combat is great, but being able to off someone from a distance without even breaking a sweat is a no-brainer!
Hawkeye would win, he's just too good with the bow and arrow
hawkeye, without a doubt. fury is certainly a bad*** in his own right, but hawkeye excels in every category. & no need for hawkeye to take out fury from a distance, he has amazing close rang tactics with his bow.
I'll take Hawkeye. I don't think Fury could outrun his arrows.
Hawkeye would win because the stats are higher.
Hawkeye would win for sure. Not to say Nick would do bad, he could definitely pull off the win...but Hawkeye has the advantage here, especially if the fight starts at a range of any kind. Nick may be smarter, but Hawkeye is no dummy himself. Now if you had said "who would win in a fight, Samuel L. Jackson or Jeremy Renner?", the clear and ONLY choice would be Samuel F****** Jackson!
Nick Fury would win this...... he supplies Hawkeye. Something tells me that he would have a counter to anything Hawkeye could throw at him.
Hawkeye over Nick Fury for sure!
Hawkeye, all the way
Fury is one of those guys who can either be good at close range combat or long ranged besides you never know when he would be using one of the classic Fury androids...
Hawkeye would win because he is an assassin & never misses his target!
Hawkeye because he can pick off nick fury with one of his awesome arrows.
Nick Fury would win. That eye patch is intimidating and I think that will play into Hawkeye's battle psyche.
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
