This contest is now closed. It was a close Showdown, but Hawkeye topped Fury 113-88, with two draws. Check back tomorrow for a new Avengers Showdown!
OK Avengers fans, it's time for another Showdown. We'll save the heavy hitters (Iron Man, etc.) for next week, but for opening weekend, it seems almost right to feature the guy who recruited our heroes, Nick Fury. And since we purposely avoided the messy love affair between Hawkeye and Black Widow last week, it seems we should shine the spotlight on the archery assassin. We'd love to pit him against Katniss from The Hunger Games, but we'll just have to wait for some kind of a Marvel-Hunger Games crossover. Until then, let's take a look at this week's combatants.
In one corner, he's the one-eyed wonder of perpetual youth (as long as he gets his injections of the Infinity Formula). The director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Fury is a skilled combat veteran of three wars – World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam. He was a heavyweight boxer in the army and holds a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and a brown belt in Jiu Jitsu, not to mention he's honed his combat skills sparring with Captain America. Here are his Marvel stats courtesy of Marvel.com:
In the other corner, is Clinton Francis Barton, otherwise known as Hawkeye. Hawkeye possesses no superhuman powers, but he is an expert marksman, acrobat and fencer. He too has been expertly trained by Cap in hand-to-hand combat and martial arts. But let's not kid ourselves, Hawkeye's strength lies in his array of trick arrows and keen eyesight. Here are his Marvel stats courtesy of Marvel.com:
So who wins this Showdown and why? Would Fury make it a hand-to-hand slugfest or would Hawkeye pick Fury off from a distance?
Let us know below. We'll randomly pick a winner from the comments below (one comment per entrant). You must be 18 or older to enter and this contest runs until 11:59 p.m. PST on May 8, 2012. The prize? A $25 limited edition Avengers collectors gift card. You can also purchase them here.
Good luck Avengers fans. And if you're curious who won last week's showdown, Captain America rallied to topple Black Widow 194-156, with six draws, a few indecisive comments and one vote for the Hulk.
Jeremy Renner, The Avengers, Samuel L. Jackson
Fanboy Fix, The Avengers
I love that masterpiece that makes my wearing precise with new sensational garb.

Hawkeye fo sho because he is amazingly hot and relly good with the cross bow
well said chicken haha :)
Fury all the way. He would anticipate Hawkeye's every move and counter them until victory.
I think Hawkeye would win!
Hawkeye wins because after his undercover spy work, he knows Fury's weaknesses.
Nick Fury is a combat veteran with the experience, skill, and will to overcome Hawkeye in any smackdown.
Nick Fury I know has that intangible instinct to win in any combat mode, SP the opponent is an arrow guy, crossbow or the other, bring him and his gym skills on! NICK FURY S.H.I.E.L.D.
Hawkeye would win because he has youth and a dead shot on his side.
Well Nick Fury and Clint Barton are both forces to be reckoned with. Nick Fury is a veteran solider and military strategist and heads one of the foremost intelligence and threat intervention agencies in the world. Clint is a highly skilled martial artist and spy with a seemingly superhuman since of accuracy and ridiculous amount of tenacity. While they have Clint officially ranked higher in intelligence, Fury and Hawkeye are probably more equal in this area. They are both pretty intelligent guys. They would both best most normal men. Fury is a little older and Hawkeye is probably whFury 20 years ago. Plus, in the books Hawkeye took over as DareDevil for a while. So he can throw it down. Could go either way... DRAW
Nick Fury wins this Showdown
Fury would sneak up on and take down Hawkeye easily.
It has been said many times "Old age and treachery..." I'll vote for Fury on this one simply due to cunning and experience.
Hawkeye because Nick Fury would have to turn to completely see him. ;)
Hawk's eye would leave Nick furious to lose his one good one...
Hawkeye would win!!!
But only in a fair one.....
I think hawkeye. Anyone who can shoot like that can pick someone off easy!
Hawkeye, for a longer range.
Fury wins the fight using his fighting skills and intelligence to beat Hawkeye with something surprising and tricky.
What Fury has going for him is the fact he is a wily ******* and knows the strengths and weaknesses of his opponents. Barton is a skilled assassin and marksman and is no stranger to being patient and waiting for his opponent to make one wrong move to take them out. Hawkeye is good at being a prankster, as well, and can get under anybody's skin. I think Hawkeye would win if he made sure to keep out of sight and wait patiently, which he can do. He has the intelligence to stay ahead of Fury and he if makes sure not to fall into a pattern that Fury could track, he has it in the bag.
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
