A few days ago, Variety broke the internet with the announcement that Joss Whedon would be returning to write and direct The Avengers 2. Now Marvel has confirmed that the film will arrive in theaters in the summer of 2015. MTV has gone as far as to suggest that May 1 could be the exact date, though Marvel hasn't gone that far in their release date announcement.
"Marvel has a very set agenda of what they want to do, they are already kind of ahead of the game [on the sequel] because they've got the guy that did it before doing it again and something tells me Joss already has the template [for the film]," the source told them. "In terms of the time frame, I think that it is well in the works. ... It looks like the release date might be May 1, 2015, but that can change depending on people's schedules. The beauty of The Avengers is that you've got so many people in this that even during the shoot if someone has to do another film they can just focus on [other characters]."
All signs also point to Ant-Man being the third film in Marvel slate of films arriving in 2014 to go along with Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy.
Regardless of what the exact release date is, we do know that the film is confirmed for summer 2015 and will pick up from where Guardians of the Galaxy leaves off.
There's more conjecture as the dots get put together over on Movies.com.

Like many others, I can't wait for Avengers 2. The 1st one was very well done. The only beef I have is: Is it really necessary to bring in Ant-Man? He's a nothing character and brings nothing to the table. Of all the Marvel characters to choose from, Ant-man would be at the bottom of my list. Even Giant-Man would be better than Ant-Man.

You do know Ant man was a founding member of the avengers comic wise right? Though it's uncertain how he is going to be in the cinematic universe all we can do is see right? I for one look forward to seeing more Heroes!

Why are they trying to peg an exact release day nearly 3 years out? Mark your calenders everybody! Oh wait...those calenders won't even be for sale for another 2.5 years.

Do people still buy calenders?

They usually do that for $200 million blockbusters. Everyone from the writers to the funders to the marketers want to know the release date this far in advance for a movie this big, so they can plan the rollout of the film.

Geez, I can't even get through the first sentence without reading a mistake. So Variety broke the Internet huh? So there are no people that edit stories online I see. Good job.
Seriously.

How is that wrong?

This is going to be exciting for sure. I know they don't come up with the sappy stuff that a lot of other people do, like that robot fighting movie. My dad and I are huge fans of Iron Man and anything science fictiony anyway. So this will be great when it comes out. I have some detailed and relevant/current articles on the Avengers 2 that you can check out right now. [BLOCKED WEBSITE]'-and-marvel-live-action-tv-series/

"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
"Squirrel!"
