When Variety broke the news yesterday, it seemed like a too-good-to-be-true April Fool's joke. Much like the prank that had James Cameron directing a Prometheus sequel, the news that Ashton Kutcher would be playing Steve Jobs in an upcoming biopic seemed laughable.
After all, this is the same Ashton Kutcher who currently banks over $15 million per season (although that number could rise following contract negotiations). This is also the same Ashton Kutcher who has starred in a series of critically despised romantic comedies over the past couple years ranging from New Year's Eve to Valentine's Day, not to mention creating the TV show Punk'd, which catered to Kutcher's well-known love of pranks.
All that having been stated, you can't deny the resemblance between the two. Production on the film, Jobs, is set to begin next month when Two and a Half Men goes on hiatus. According to Variety, the movie will follow Jobs from when he and Steve Wozniak founded Apple in 1976 to when Jobs returned to the company in the late 1990s after being forced out.
Kutcher's movie will go up against another Steve Jobs biopic being produced by Sony Pictures. Their biopic is an adaptation of the best-selling autobiography by Walter Isaacson which remains as one of Amazon's top 25 books, six months after hitting stores.
What do you think of Kutcher playing Jobs? Do you think he can pull off the role?
I do not think he is the best person for this role or that he could pull it off. I am drawing a blank on the exact actor I am trying to think of but I think Kevin Spacey could do a better job at Jobs.
Noah Wiley made a better Steve Jobs than Ashton ever could. No offence to Ashton, I'm just not convinced he could pull off the same air that Noah gave Steve in "Pirates of Silicon Valley"
I couldn't have said it better…"Pirates of Silicon Valley" has set a standard.
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
