A proposed Aretha Franklin biopic has been floating around for several years now. A few years ago, Aretha has spoken out about the project, objecting to the non-chronological approach to her life story.
Now Aretha is drumming up buzz about the project, telling Glamour that "the movie is being directed by Taylor Hackford." "We are fine-tuning the treatment now. The treatment has four acts. He has finished all four. We're now reworking some of it where it needs work: 'A little more drama, tell me something else, what else happened here? We need a little more of this, a little more of that.'"
Franklin says that she and Hackford are pretty much in agreement on actors and actresses.
"Each name that I put out there, he likes. The names he put out there, I like. We have a happy medium there."
Despite initially liking Billy Dee Williams for the role of her father, Aretha now says she would like Denzel Washington to play the role. "If he put a little more weight on and glasses, he could handle it," she said.
As for the lead role, Aretha has three actresses in mind.
"We have Jennifer Hudson, Audra McDonald and Halle Berry. That's the last three." What's unclear is if these are the final three actresses on their wish list or these are the final three who want to be involved in the project.
All in all though, it seems like positive movement in getting the project moving forward. Who do you think should play Aretha on the big screen? It almost has to be Hudson, right?

Who now? They'll make a biopic of anyone now a days.
Cast Audra McDonald as Arentha she has a voice confidant for the job. She impressed me in the 1999 Disney TV production of Annie and she can do it again
Yes, she's extraodinary and what a awesome Vocalist range she has Ms. Audra McDonald. HOPE the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin wish list comes to light!!
And Hackford gave me the first movie that made me want to cry 8 years ago with Ray
Yes, RAY was an incrediable emotional movie/Director Taylor Hackford did beautiful w/that on legendary Music Artist/Composer Ray Charles. "Georgia On My MInd" is a one of my fav songs by him. Looking forward to see how he'll bring ARETHA: The Queen of Soul to life on the big screen and hope her wish-list of talents she wants to protray her Family come to light..'Actor Denzel Washington would be excellent as her Father and Angela Bassett would be awesome as her Mother and as for the Queen of Soul well like I've mentioned above Vocalist Ms. Audra McDonald fits the bill perfectly. Have a great day, fandad!!
I agree completely with what you said it was a peaceful day at the Century in the Sacremento mall and Ray should have won Best Pixture instead of that deviststing Million Dollar Baby
