This could have been an explosive combination (and still might be, if fates align).
Sultry actor-director Angelina Jolie was linked as a directorial option for Universal Studios’ big-screen adaptation of the massively successful Fifty Shades of Grey, a steamy romance novel that got its start as a piece of Twilight fan fiction. British author E. L. James’ prose struck a nerve with a worldwide audience, powering e-book sales and getting Hollywood’s attention. A feature-film adaptation is in the works.
But who will direct? In a Deadline article, Jolie’s name was floated out there as being interested in the gig. She just delivered her directorial debut In the Land of Blood and Honey, and could be an intriguing pick to helm the hot and heavy subject matter in Grey. At the very least, her involvement would be a tremendous above-the-title boost for a project that probably doesn’t need help generating awareness.
Alas, Jolie’s reps quickly issued a statement saying that the actress, who’s currently filming Maleficent for Walt Disney, wasn’t interested at this time. But the door didn't slam shut. In response, Universal said (via Deadline) that "if [Jolie] was interested, that the studio would be also. They loved her directorial debut, In the Land of Blood and Honey."
So Jolie’s out … unless she wants in. Interesting. Let’s hear it, Grey fans. Would you like to see Jolie directing your big-screen adaptation? Is she wrong for the material? Or will she bring a perfect touch? We’d love to hear your opinions. Share them below.

Just a thought, but I'd like to see James McAvoy as Christian Grey.
Eww No! See this is why they should not make books into movies they will never make what everyone see's in their own head as the characters. I am an avid reader and so far none of the movies they have made from books have even come close to the picture in my head when i read the book. But that is the reason a book is a book so that you can be transported and imagine what these characters look like. When they make it in to a movie they ruin that experience. I do not know why Hollywood cannot write their own scripts. Its either a remake or a book adaptation and when they do write their own stuff its stupid moron humor movies where people act like idiots.

I love Fifty Shades of Grey! Yes, Angelina Jolie would have been perfect in directing this film since she is a well known legend in the movie industry. Yes, I agree with Ms. Calla she was asked to direct the movie not be Ana. Yes Vany, there is mature content in these books indeed. However, is a Love story well written. It's a book that brings a boy out of his shade from everything he has learned or witness since he was a child. How can you bring a man out of his own inner fears? When all he knows is what he witnessed as a child or as a 15-year-old with Mrs. Robinson. Ana helped Grey release his inner demons. This is what a true relationship is all about when you communicate and help each other along the way besides the adult content.
Thank you so much for your kind thought. I just don't like when people are not open minded. Yes, this is an Adult Content Book. However is a well written romance of a little boy was raised based on his childhood experience. Then how he utilizes everything he knows to his own advantage. Until Ana falls into his office and starts making him question his own actions. We need to know the world does not only consist of young Teenagers who need to read. We also need to attract the older audience as well. Congratulations Mrs. E. L. James for an Exotic Romance Novel well written. You know we original fans of your fanfiction site know you as our SnowDragonIceQueen, & Christian Grey is our MOTU (Master Of Our Universe). Thank You!
The book fits the script of a Porno.
Steve McQueen (Shame)
um, I think they wanted her to direct it - not be Ana.
Angelina is TOO OLD-Anastasia is 21/22 by the end of book 3. And anyway, why the heck would any actress worth any weight want to be in this? If the script follows the book, it's going to be junk.
Hello!!! The article is regarding her directoring the film not playing Anastasia! SMH
