As the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con approaches, we're going to start seeing new images and trailers for some of the big films of late 2011 and summer 2012. Superhero Hype reports that the first trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man will arrive in front of Captain America: The First Avenger next week. Not only that, but it's two and a half minutes long! Talk about showing us a whole lot with still a year to go before release.
Not only does EW finally confirm that Rhys Ifans is playing The Lizard in the film, but they also add these little nuggets of Spidey info:
"Four years after Spider-Man 3, starring Tobey Maguire, The Amazing Spider-Man promises to be a "more contemporary," "more gritty," and "more character-driven" look at the comic book hero. He's a hero the 27-year-old Garfield knows well. Growing up, "I related to Peter Parker [Spidey's alter ego] so much because I felt like someone else inside," he says. "I loved the comic books and the animated TV series and I even dressed up as Spider-Man as a kid."
Adds Webb: "Ultimately what this movie is about is a kid who grows up looking for his father and finds himself. And that's a Spider-Man story we haven't seen before."
More images from EW's spread should arrive sometime today or tomorrow (blurry ones are already online), but for starters here's a nice crisp shot of the cover, featuring Spidey himself, Andrew Garfield.
The Amazing Spider-Man hits theaters on July 3rd, 2012.

Hell 2 da naw, peter parker was the best spider man to me... im jus saying
Mixed feelings here... for one, it's *way* too soon after the Raimi films to be doing a reboot. But since that's not going to change... I don't know. A lot hinges on how good of an acting job Garfield does as Parker (he's a good actor, so maybe he'll be ok) but worried about him being Spidey. Love the fact that they're going so much with Spidey canon- web shooters! Gwen Stacey! XD The problem is for all the losers who honestly believe that the "real" Spiderman is the one in Raimi films- for all you who are like this, I tell you two things: One, keep and open mind, and two, go read some actual Spiderman comics.
The trailer seems interesting, though not so sure about the parents' role in it all... I'll see it and critique.
straight up ***get
I LOVE SEE ALL THE SPINDER MAN , I CAN WAIT TO SEE NEW THE AMAZING SPINER -MAN, , I AM GO SEE ,IT SOON.
I never really thought that the last 3 movies have caught the whole (Marvel & comic book vibe). Way too much drag, rushed through fight scenes, & kiddieness. So it would be nice to take a "darker" action packed comic style movie like Marvel has done as of late. Looking forward to being wowed again.
I just don't like when you have a series of movies, using same actors, and just out of the blues, they make a another movie, and every body has been replace......is really frustrating, cause one expect they respect us by let the same line of people keep working on same, we get use to see them. I don't like that.
I just hope he portrays the witty, quipping, sh$%-talking Spidey of the comics...not the "don't you feel sorry for my poor @$$ tobey mcguire Spidey!
why does his costume resemble the Spiderman 2099 comic series more than the original costume??? Classless if you ask me Uncle Ben is rolling over in his grave
toby is the best so just cancel this stupid take-off. id rather see spider-man 4 instead of this gay remake. y redo something that is already good?
Being a die hard fan of both The first 2 Raimi Spiderman movies and the Ultimate Spiderman comics(as well as the others but this will serve as best example of my statement) I can accept completely different versions of Spidey that still capture the basic essence of the character. I really think that if done properly this will be an awesome movie esp since it will be a 3d film which could make for some awesome slinging scenes. I believe Garfield has the nerdy part down for the role but really Pattinson hair needs to go. I love Emma so im sure she will do well. I have a better outlook for this film than i originally did but still gonna have to see the final product to fully judge. But seriously kill the Pattinson hair it's terrible!!!!
Leave the hair alone! LOVE it! After reading many different Spidey comics and loving Sam's trilogy, I have no problem with the way Garfield looks. He definitely has that Peter Parker vibe about him. But I, don't get going backwards in the movies to Gwen. 1.) I know how it ends. It was sad enough in the comics. I don't do movies where main characters die. Too sad. I go to be entertained, not depressed. 2.) I FIRED Marvel when they had Peter make a deal with the devil, ending his marriage to MJ (+yrs of continuity). I see this as FURTHER efforts to distance Peter and Mary Jane in peoples minds - Which is why I've been boycotting Spider-man comics, and most likely THIS movie too. (Does JQ still have ANYTHING to do with Marvel? Deal killer.)
I thought I would want to watch the new "makes" of Spiderman.
But I guess not..
hmmm not really sure i like what i see.... :( will have to wait but i can say that this peter parker will never be like the Tobey Maguire spidey!
THIS MOVIE LOOKS RETARDED HES SPOSED 2B A NERD
Normally I can't stand Emma Stone's face but here she kind of looks normal and tolerable. Hope that continues through the movie.
Is MJ supposed to be "strawberry blonde"?
Emma Stone is playing Gwen Stacy not Mary Jane Watson... MJ isn't in this movie. They (oh God, I hope the rumors are true) are trying to stick closer to the original comic story lines in this one. So Gwen first, then MJ as Peter's Love interest.
But, since this takes place after S-M3 chronologically, They obviously have to deviate from that part of the original comic canon
And no, MJ is a redhead, and Gwen is blonde... but Emma Stone is auburn and hott...so, no big deal...lol
If I'm not to mistaken both Peter Parker and MJ are clones to make things really confusing Ben Riely( please excuse spelling error) is the original Spiderman
Ben was the clone. And it was proven when he died saving Peter from the original Green Goblin and his body rapidly decayed in a matter of minutes.
This movie is a sell out the whole cast are cherrio top of the mornin to ya govna Brits ! Bunch of wankers lol
Emma Stone is British?
I B Darkman
I love how we vent an no one gives a dame, no one reads us complaining lol!!!!! They should I guess they can't listen to everyone! An from the looks of it it seems they have with those made webs!! :) talk on Bloggers. :)
