Adam Sandler's Happy Madison production company has stepped in to re-imagine Carl Reiner's timeless classic Summer School for Paramount. According to THR, a remake has been in the works for five years now. Apparently Paramount was just waiting to find the right partner to remake the movie with and they found it with Sandler, whose Jack and Jill recently became the only movie ever to sweep the Razzie Awards.
In the original, Mark Harmon played a laid-back high school physical education teacher who gets stuck teaching a summer school English class after the original teacher ends up winning the lottery. Thanks to his class of misfits, he realizes that he has no idea how to teach.
The film co-starred a young Kirstie Alley as Harmon's love interest as well as Saw's Shawnee Smith, Courtney Thorne-Smith and Dean Cameron.
No word yet on Happy Madison's pans for the remake. Sandler is not attached to star… yet.
Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes Takes Over Halloween Franchise
As if taking over the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise wasn't enough, Bloody Disgusting reports that Michael Bay and his Platinum Dunes production company are now taking control of the Halloween franchise. A previously planned Halloween 3D that was scheduled to hit theaters this October have now been scrapped in favor of taking the franchise in a new direction.
Previously Todd Farmer and Patrick Lussier of Drive Angry fame were attached to direct Halloween 3D. Now, new writers and directors are being sought and the 3D concept has also been ditched.
Halloween becomes just the latest horror classic that is being rebooted by Bay's production company. Previous films include The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Amityville Horror, Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street.
Rob Zombie rebooted the franchise five years ago, which raises the question of how many times can you reboot a franchise before movie audiences tune you out.
