You Rate The New Releases: ‘Thor,’ ‘Jumping the Broom’ and ‘Something Borrowed’

While it didn’t quite hit the $70 million mark that early estimates thought it might, Thor still managed to hammer out a $65.7 million opening weekend to claim the top spot at the box office.

The Chris Hemsworth action adventure may have been hurt by Mother’s Day weekend festivities as the movie was marketed more toward the 13-35 fanboy sect rather than a movie to take mom to. With a head start overseas, Thor has managed to pull in an additional $176 million internationally.
Conversely, Jumping the Broom and Something Borrowed performed better than expected. It seems audiences took their moms to watch Paula Patton and Angela Bassett lead Broom to a $15.2 million opening while Kate Hudson’s Borrowed outperformed estimates and managed to pull in $13 million.
Defending box office champ Fast Five, which roared out to an $86.2 million opening weekend, fell to second with $32.5 million, losing most of its IMAX screens to Thor. Five did surpass Rango though to become the highest grossing movie of 2011 so far, with $140 million domestically and $324.5 worldwide.
That been said, it’s your turn now to rate box office champ, Thor, as well as the two rom-coms . Sound off in the poll below and feel free to share your thoughts on the movie in the comment section.
