Hopefully this past weekend’s new releases didn’t force any of you out on the ledge of a building. What the box office did prove, however, is that Liam Neeson owns the month of January. His latest film, The Grey, opened in first place with $20 million, all but paving the way for Neeson to star in January movies from here on out. This year he fought wolves – what should Liam Neeson fight next January? Let us know in the comments!
Meanwhile, while Neeson was busy being a badass at the box office, Katherine Heigl changed her hair color and it scored her latest film, One for the Money, third place at the box office with $11.8 million. That was more than Sam Worthington could drum up with his latest thriller, Man on a Ledge, which was forced to settle for fifth place and $8.25 million.
As for critics, they liked The Grey quite a bit, scoring it 78% Fresh over at Rotten Tomatoes. The other two new releases … not so much. Man on a Ledge coughed up a miserable 26% Rotten, while One for the Money barely found anyone who liked it, drumming up a paltry 3% Rotten.
But was The Grey really the only worthwhile new release in theaters this weekend? The critics have had their turn to speak, so now it’s yours. Sound off in our polls and in the comments section below, and let us know what you really thought of the latest movies to hit theaters.
