To think we could be witnessing the aftermath of G.I. Joe: Retaliation right now. Instead, the action flick got bumped to next spring, allowing Ted and Magic Mike to duke it out for the top of the box office. Both films exceeded expectations with Ted coming in at #1 with $54.1 million. Magic Mike was second with $39.1 million, just ahead of Pixar's Brave, which added another $34 million to its overall take.
Tyler Perry continues to be a force at the box office with Madea's Witness Protection debuting in fourth with $26.3 million. People Like Us became the victim of the crowded opening weekend, finishing in 11th with $4.3 million.
The top two films also earned mostly positive reviews from critics. Magic Mike led the new movies with 78% while Ted got a 69% freshness rating on RottenTomatoes. People Like Us earned a 54% rotten rating while Madea, predictably, earned a 22% rotten rating.
