You Pick the Oscar Winner: Best Director

Easily one of the most interesting categories at this year's Oscars is the best director field. Ben Affleck's nomination snub has been well-documented and let's certainly not forget Quentin Tarantino and Tom Hopper – two guys who were predicted by various pundits to make the Oscar cut.

Instead, we've got an eclectic mix of auteurs ranging from Steven Spielberg and Ang Lee to Michael Haneke and Benh Zeitlin. David O. Russell fills in the fifth nomination for the category.

What makes this category particularly difficult to predict is that the directing honors at the Globes, DGA and Critics Choice Awards went to Affleck, who is quite noticeably absent here. Does that mean Spielberg becomes the automatic lock here? Should we be reading more into the Academy's nominations of Haneke and Zeitlin? Or is Silver Linings Playbook the dark horse given its awards success in acting categories at the various awards events thus far?

The category is certainly up in the air and everyone is going to have a different opinion on who wins this category. Head on over to our Ballot Box and make your selections for a chance to win a pair of movie tickets! Also, voice your choice on who will win in the comment section below.

The Academy Awards air on ABC on February 24 at 4 p.m. PST/7 p.m. EST.
