If there's such a thing as the dog days of August, then welcome to them. These last two weekends in August aren't reserved for the most high-profile releases, but that doesn't mean you won't see something you enjoy. A bit of a random slate arriving this weekend, so let's get right to it.
What's the Scoop: Joseph Gordon-Levitt returns to theaters ... again (he's starring in a film four out of five months in a row) with this film about a bike messenger (Gordon-Levitt) who picks up the wrong package and winds up with a dirty cop (Michael Shannon) on his tail.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: Gordon-Levitt is hotter than hot right now, and with the weather about to cool down now might be a good time for a movie that inspires us to get out and ride our bikes more.
What's the Scoop: When a college experiment goes wrong, a couple are haunted by an unfriendly supernatural presence.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: The horror flicks love late August and late August loves its horror flicks. Plus we've got cutie Ashley Greene from the Twilight films heading this one up, so it's not all that creepy.
What's the Scoop: Dax Shepard plays a former getaway driver who bolts from the Witness Protection Program in order to get his girlfriend (Kristen Bell) to Los Angeles. Complications arise when the feds and his ex-gang members give chase.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: Shepard and Bell are a couple in real life, too, so the chemistry is there and a supporting cast featuring Bradley Cooper and Tom Arnold can't hurt either.
My Prediction: While this weekend does bring us three new releases, I still think The Expendables 2 has enough legs to inch its way to the top of the pile for a second week in a row.
My Pick of the Week: Out in limited release is a hilarious little indie called Sleepwalk with Me, starring comedian Mike Birbiglia as a stand-up comedian who's trying to juggle his hectic life around wild bouts of sleepwalking.
Alright folks, now it's your turn. Sound off below and let us know which film you think will win the weekend box office.
