You Pick the Box Office Winner: Can 'The Great Gatsby' Woo 'Iron Man 3' Out of the Top Spot?

Welcome to what I like to call a take-a-deep-breath weekend, which are always welcome during a summer movie season packed with monster blockbusters. Right now we're sandwiched between two such blockbusters -- Iron Man 3, which hit last weekend, and Star Trek Into Darkness, which arrives next weekend -- and so, like I said above, it's a good time to catch your breath and go see something that doesn't involve lots of explosive special effects. Let's check out our options ...

The Great Gatsby

What's the Scoop: The always colorful and inventive (and divisive) Baz Lurhmann transforms one of our most beloved pieces of literature into a wildly colorful non-stop party where money is no object and love is the impossible dream.

Why It Might Win the Weekend: Based on name recognition alone, The Great Gatsby could do well. Throw in a dapper-looking Leonardo DiCaprio and an elegant Carey Mulligan, and ... why are you still reading this? Go see it!

Peeples

What's the Scoop: Produced by Tyler Perry, Peeples stars the hilarious Craig Robinson as a dude who crashes a family's annual reunion in the Hamptons in order ro propose to their precious daughter.

Why It Might Win the Weekend: Those who need a break from the action (literally) may find it in this quirky comedy starring familiar faces like Kerry Washington and David Alan Grier.

My Prediction: C'mon, you didn't really think Iron Man would fold after one weekend, did you? Not a chance. Iron Man 3 will take the weekend.

My Pick of the Week: While many critics are mixed on The Great Gatsby, I really enjoyed its lush visuals and unique soundtrack infusing hip-hop with 1920s jazz. It's fun, vibrant, sexy, seductive, moody and poetic, and you'll no doubt enjoy some terrific performances from Leonardo DiCaprio and Joel Edgerton, especially.

Alright folks, now it's on you. Go vote below, and tell us what you'll be watching this weekend.
