Although Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson could probably defeat Tyler Perry in a fight, it may be a different story when it comes to a fight at the box office. Both men have movies in theaters this weekend, along with a little something from the girl who wrote those Twilight books. Remember them? Something about vampires? Taylor Lautner stars as Teen Wolf? Ring a bell? Anyone?
Moving on, let's take a closer look at which new movies are invading your local theaters this holiday weekend.
What's the Scoop: The G.I. Joes have returned to the big screen for another explosive adventure that finds them battling Cobra, as well those from within the government who want to take them all down. Dwayne Johnson's muscles also make an appearance.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: Channing Tatum, Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis are in this thing. C'mon.
What's the Scoop: Based on the popular sci-fi novel written by Stephanie Meyer (Twilight) about an alien race that invades human bodies, erasing their memories, and the one human girl (Saoirse Ronan) who fights to keep hers.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: There's aliens, teen romance and a strong connection to Twilight. Need I say more?
What's the Scoop: Tyler Perry sheds his Madea character for this adult romance drama about an ambitious married woman who finds herself tempted to stray from her relationship when a billionaire enters the equation.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: Tyler Perry has a lot of fans, and a lot of honest, relatable things to say about relationships. Together, they're just fuel for a healthy box office.
My Prediction: Go Joe! Then watch Joe take all the money at this week's box office! Yup, I'm going with G.I. Joe Retaliation for the win.
My Pick of the Week: In limited release is a super nerdy documentary called Room 237, featuring all these ridiculously insane theories about Stanley Kubrick's The Shining. Most of them probably aren't true, but any movie nerd -- especially those who love The Shining -- will certainly dig it. You'll scratch your head in disbelief, but you won't be able to turn away.
Alright folks, now it's your turn -- let us know what you're watching this weekend, and which movie you think will win the box office.
