You Pick the Box Office Winner (3/2-3/4)

Are you in the mood for some nice, friendly Dr. Seuss rhymes from a creature with a giant mustache, or do you want to get your insane house party groove on with a bunch of lunatic teenagers? Your wide release options this week couldn’t be more different, so let’s take a closer look at the big, drunken picture …

Project X

What’s the Scoop: The found-footage genre finally injects itself into the teen sex comedy genre with this film about a group of kids who aspire to throw the ultimate house party.

Why It Might Win the Weekend: The Hangover director Todd Phillips is the mastermind here, and while this isn’t exactly The Hangover: Teen Edition, it is just as raunchy, foul-mouthed and over-the-top.

Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax

What’s the Scoop: Based on the popular Dr. Seuss book, the animated film follows a boy looking to win the affection of the girl of his dreams, and along the way he discovers the story of the Lorax, a grumpy, yellow-mustached creature who lives to protect his world.

Why It Might Win the Weekend: Besides the fact that every little kid has at least one Dr. Seuss book in their collection, this particular flick comes from the creators of Despicable Me, which entertained us to no end. Plus this one has nice messages about protecting our planet and such, and parents dig that stuff.

My Prediction: I’ve been off lately, so let that be a warning to those frantically reading this prediction while in Las Vegas, itching to throw down a life-threatening bet. My senses are leaning toward The Lorax, moreso because I’m a fan of yellow and orange, but also because I think the kids are going to gobble this one up.

My Pick of the Week: There’s also a lot out in limited release this week, like Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie (for those who like that duo’s absurd sense of humor), as well as a kick-ass action flick called Let the Bullets Fly and a quiet character drama starring Paul Dano and Robert DeNiro called Being Flynn. I’d go with one of those three depending on your mood.

Alright, now it’s your turn – sound off below and let us know which film you think will win the weekend.
