You Pick the Box Office Winner (2/24-2/26)

The Academy Awards are this Sunday night, which means there's no better time to go to the movies than this weekend. Ya know, make it a theme and all. And if you're one of those folks who'd like to take in a movie this weekend at your local cineplex, you'll have plenty of options with four new films in wide release. There's action, comedy, thrills, chills ... and that's just Tyler Perry's latest flick. We kid, we kid ... let's take a closer look at this week's contenders ...

Act of Valor

What's the Scoop: Tired of unrealistic movies featuring the military in combat? Well here's one that's so realistic they used real Navy SEALs in the cast! Watch as they embark on a covert mission to rescue a kidnapped CIA agent.

Why It Might Win the Weekend: Forget about Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. It don't get any more badass than real-life Navy SEALs doing their thing in the field. If you're at all curious about one of the world's most elite (and secretive) military forces, then you best be checking this sucker out over the weekend.

Tyler Perry's Good Deeds

What's the Scoop: Tyler Perry returns to screens sans Madea in this drama about a high-powered businessman who attempts to get his priorities straight after he strikes up an unconventional friendship with his office's cleaning lady (played by Thandie Newton).

Why It Might Win the Weekend: C'mon, it's Tyler Perry! (I think that's a good enough reason.)

Wanderlust

What's the Scoop: Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston star as a Manhattan couple whose unemployment forces them to experiment with their lives by moving to a rural commune full of free love and hippie-like behavior.

Why It Might Win the Weekend: Positive buzz coupled with the fact that David Wain is quietly making some really solid comedies means this might be your best bet this weekend. Plus we love everything about Paul Rudd and will gladly watch him pick his nose for two hours.

Gone

What's the Scoop: Amanda Seyfried stars in this psychological thriller about a girl who's convinced the serial killer who abducted her years ago has returned to abduct her sister. Thus, she sets out to face her abductor once and for all.

Why It Might Win the Weekend: Not many actresses are as addictive to watch as Amanda Seyfried, and this looks perfect for those in the mood for a freaky thriller that keeps you guessing till the end.

My Prediction: Gotta go with Tyler Perry's Good Deeds to take the weekend. To bet against Perry would be like betting against ... well, something that always wins. Put it that way.

My Pick of the Week: Gonna go with Act of Valor because it's an interesting experiment putting real-life soldiers in a movie like this instead of popular actors pretending to be soldiers. Your action movies don't get as authentic as this, and to me that makes it worth a watch.

Now it's your turn -- sound off below with your pick for the film that will win the weekend box office.
