You Pick the Box Office Winner (1/13-1/15): 'Beauty and the Beast 3D,' 'Contraband' or 'Joyful Noise'

Wow, it feels like forever since we last met! First off, how was your new year? Blah blah I sat home with ridiculous amounts of pain after attempting to get my own dragon tattoo blah blah the ball dropped, and here we are! It's a new year, and if the Mayans and that weird homeless guy who smells like my grandfather's basement are correct -- and the world does at the end of this year -- then we better be gettin' some good movies. Let's see what this week brings ...

Contraband

What's the Scoop: Not to be confused with the old video game Contra, or that weird underground hippie band you listen to, this Contraband stars Mark Wahlberg as an ex-drug  smuggler who's forced to return to the business he left behind in order to save his brother-in-law from a ruthless drug lord.

Why It Might Win the Weekend: Because people like watching Mark Wahlberg be a badass, that's why.

Joyful Noise

What's the Scoop: It's like Glee, but with choirs whose members butt heads as their choir enters into a national competition. So like Glee meets Bring It On ... kind of.

Why It Might Win the Weekend: If you like Glee, then imagine Glee with a lot more Dolly Parton. This thing can't fail!

Beauty and the Beast 3D

What's the Scoop: It's the same old Oscar-nominated Disney cartoon, but with 3D added. Still can't smell the beast's bad breath, but we expect that in the next re-release.

Why It Might Win the Weekend: Because Disney cleaned house at the box office when they re-released The Lion King in 3D, and we expect Beauty and the Beast to do just as well.

My Prediction: Seeing what The Lion King did this past fall means we gotta go with Beauty and the Beast 3D to win it. Maybe Mark Wahlberg will pull a gun on the box office and force it to change its mind, but we don't see that happening.

My Pick of the Week: This week The Iron Lady expands into more theaters, and Meryl Streep has been shortlisted for an Best Actress Oscar for her role as Margaret Thatcher. Streep just melts into the character, and it's definitely one of the more fascinating performances of the year.

Now it's your turn to sound off and tell us which movie you think will win the box office this weekend.
