You Pick the Box Office Winner: (11/23-11/27)

Hey everyone, it’s a major holiday weekend which means we get to eat lots of food, guilt ourselves into going to the gym to work it off, and then go to the movies! And the good thing about a holiday like Thanksgiving is that the movies open earlier in the week, so that we have more time to feed their opening weekend box-office grosses. Thanks Hollywood! There’s a lot for the kids this week (most of whom will be conveniently off of school and looking for something to do), so, parents, you’ve got some options. Let’s take a look …

What’s the Scoop: Jason Segel teams up with the newest Muppet, Walter, to help track down Kermit, Ms. Piggy and the gang in order to get them to reunite for a telethon that could help them save the Muppets Theater from being destroyed.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: Because Disney has been promoting this thing like gangbusters all year, and also because it’s awesome – oh, and who isn’t in the mood to watch a new Muppet adventure after all these years?
What’s the Scoop: Here, Martin Scorsese directs his first 3D film about an orphan who hangs around a train station, and the fantastical adventure he goes on upon discovering an old automaton robot that belonged to his deceased father.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: The 3D should help give it a leg up in terms of the higher ticket prices, and while the story may seem appetizing to kids, the grown-ups will also be interested in seeing the latest from a master filmmaker.
What’s the Scoop: In this creative, animated holiday treat, Santa’s youngest son is dispatched on an urgent mission utilizing his father’s hi-tech operation.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: Those wanting to get a head-start on obsessing over the Christmas holiday will have a great time with this inventive comedy.
My Prediction: As a child of the ‘80s, the 10-year-old in me really wants to see The Muppets pull this one out, and so I’m going with Kermit and co. to win it all.
My Pick of the Week: In an unprecedented move, I’m going to recommend all three of the movies featured above. All of them are entertaining, fun and spirited in their own unique ways, and no matter which one you choose it will be money well spent.
Now it’s your turn – sound off in our poll below and tell us which film you think will win the weekend. Happy Thanksgiving!
