WonderCon: 'Iron Man' Sneak Preview

From Stacie Hougland, live at WonderCon in San Francisco: Iron Man's presentation was the last of WonderCon's movie features, but that didn't mean the excitement had dimnished any. Director Jon Favreau showed the world premiere of the two-minute trailer and some cut footage, and I'm BUZZED for this movie. It goes to show Robert Downey Jr. is the perfect Tony Stark, and the suit, created by Stan Winstone and ILM, is just right. We saw Stark as he first learns how to use the jet boots, maneuvering around his lab in the air (not only does it look realistic, but Downey Jr. also gets to show off his comedic flair as well as his flying skills).

"I'm a bit of a Luddite when it comes to CGI, so we had the practical suit created and ILM enhanced it. Some scenes even I can't tell the difference," Favreau said. "This is the Mark II suit. We wanted to stay true to the design but give it a little something extra."

I am Iron Man.

The footage also gave a little more information as to how Stark becomes Iron Man, the story of his capture, escape from prison, and intent to save the world. "We fought to get Robert in this, and a lot of it we give thanks to the online fans. The online community really makes a difference in what movies get made and how," Favreau said. "A lot of filmmakers don't want to admit it, but the internet is like this huge water cooler, and we're all listening."
