Forbes Magazine revealed its latest list of the top 10 highest paid actors in Hollywood and, frankly, the man at the top of the list isn't much of a surprise. The magazine tracked earnings between June 2012 and June 2013.
While you may have a good idea of who made the most over the one-year time span, find out who the other nine actors are, where they rank and how much cash they raked in over the year.
10. Liam Neeson
You know who he is, you know what he does and he gets paid well to showcase his specific set of skills. Neeson may have only shown up in two films last year, but they were both massive hits. He cameoed in The Dark Knight Rises, a $1.1 billion worldwide hit and returned for Taken 2, a $376 million box office smash. Neeson recently agreed to a $30 million contract for Taken 3 and has a number of projects in the works including appearances in Anchorman 2 and The Lego Movie.
9. Denzel Washington
Washington earned his sixth career Oscar nomination last year with Flight. He took a pay cut in exchange for a bigger cut of the back-end profits on the film. The strategy paid off as Flight took off with $162 million at the box office and a sizeable check for Mr. Washington. He'll return to theaters next month in 2 Guns and is currently filming The Equalizer.
8. Tom Cruise
Jack Reacher and Oblivion may not have been breakout hits stateside, but the foreign box office proved that Tom Cruise is still very much a bankable star. Reacher raked in $216 million while Oblivion pulled in $285 million. In both cases the foreign box office doubled what the domestic market pulled in. Next for Cruise will be an adaptation of Hiroshi Sakurazaka's sci-fi novel All You Need Is Kill (now renamed Edge of Tomorrow).
7. Adam Sandler
Despite the dud that was That's My Boy, Sandler's Hotel Transylvania proved to be a huge hit and helped land the actor back on Forbes' list. He'll only add to his bank account with the success of this past weekend's Grown Ups 2 and has a summer comedy with Drew Barrymore lined up for next year.
6. Leonardo DiCaprio
DiCaprio starred in two films last year, but they were both solid hits. The selective actor teamed with Quentin Tarantino for Django Unchained and reunited with Baz Luhrmann for The Great Gatsby earlier this year. He continues the reuniting later this year with Martin Scorsese in The Wolf of Wall Street.
5. Dwayne Johnson
If it seemed liked Dwayne Johnson was in everything during the early part of this year, well, he basically was and since he doesn't work for free, Johnson cashed checks for Snitch, Empire State, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Pain & Gain and Fast & Furious 6. This is in addition to his appearances at various special events for WWE including Wrestlemania, Royal Rumble and so forth. Johnson also recently launched his own reality TV show The Hero and has a number of film projects lined up for 2014.
4. Mark Wahlberg
When Ted became a $550 million worldwide hit, it helped land Wahlberg on this list. Additionally, Wahlberg serves as an executive producer for the HBO series Boardwalk Empire and the upcoming Hugh Jackman thriller Prisoners. He starred in Broken City and Pain & Gain this year and will return to theaters in August opposite Denzel Washington in 2 Guns and wrap 2013 with Peter Berg's Lone Survivor. Then there's 2014 and his starring role in Transformers 4, a gig that will most likely land him on this list again next year.
3. Hugh Jackman
Though he may be known for his portrayal of Wolverine in the many X-Men movies, Jackman scored an Oscar nomination for his performance in last year's Les Miserables. He also cashed checks for his performances in Rise of the Guardians and (unfortunately) Movie 43. Coming up, he'll reprise his role as Wolverine in The Wolverine next week, star in the thriller Prisoners this fall and is currently working on X-Men: Days of Future Past.
2. Channing Tatum
Much of Tatum's riches come from the success of Steven Soderbergh's self-finanaced movie Magic Mike. Made for $7 million, the movie brought in $167 million worldwide and a hefty paycheck for Tatum and Soderbergh. A sequel and Broadway show are now in the works as well as a New Orleans bar. Then there's his other film projects which include a 21 Jump Street sequel, Jupiter Ascending and the drama Foxcatcher from Moneyball director Bennett Miller due later this year.
1. Robert Downey Jr.
Is this really a surprise? The star of two of the top-five highest grossing movies of all time, Downey, Jr. managed to secure a nice chunk of the profits from The Avengers. He recently signed a new contract that will not only guarantee him a huge upfront paycheck, but a cut of the profits from the next two Avengers movies and a spot in future Forbes Highest Paid Actors lists.
That's right. According to Forbes, Downey, Jr. banked $75 million last year. What would you do with that kind of money? Is there anyone you're suprised didn't make the list?
