Chalk another '80s film to the remake machine. The quirky John Hughes directed comedy Weird Science is slated to get "an edgier" remake. Actually, rumors of a potential remake have been circulating for a couple years now, but it looks as though producer Joel Silver, who produced the Hughes original, is set to create another perfect woman with Project X and 21 Jump Street writer Michael Bacall penning the script.
Deadline reports that the film will attempt to follow the example set by The Hangover franchise and last year's 21 Jump Street.
The original film starred Anthony Michael Hall and Ilan Mitchell-Smith as nerds who attempt to create the perfect woman to fulfill their adolescent fantasies. Kelly LeBrock played the female lead in the original which also co-starred Bill Paxton and Robert Downey Jr. The film was later adapted into a TV series for USA Network in the mid-'90s with Vanessa Angel playing the bombshell.
Which brings us to the female lead of this new version. There are no names mentioned in the remake announcement, so we're opening up the female lead role to you. Who do you think should play the role?
Here's a few options: Gemma Arterton (Hansel and Gretel), Megan Fox, Alexis Knapp (Pitch Perfect, Project X), Amber Heard, Minka Kelly, Jennifer Lawrence (a definite long-shot), Kaley Cuoco (she has experience playing against nerd-types on The Big Bang Theory), Laura Vandervoort (boasts a solid sci-fi/fanboy following), Mila Kunis (another longshot), Nina Dobrev (has a strong fangirl following), Yvonne Strahovski (of Chuck and Dexter fame) and if we're going with models, Victoria Secret model Candice Swanepoel.
Do any of those names sound like contenders? Is there someone else you'd like to see in the role? Here's the trailer from the original film to help jog your memory.
