The Hunger Games Movie News

Weekend Roundup: 'Hunger Games,' 'Prometheus,' 'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter' and more Must-See Videos

A wealth of geeky video treasures flooded the Internet over the weekend, thanks in large part to the WonderCon marketing event in Anaheim. (Click here and here for our exclusive coverage of this weekend's events.) In case you spent your Saturday and Sunday outdoors without logging onto the World Wide Web – and if that’s the case, what on Earth were you thinking?! – we compiled the weekend’s best clips in one handy-dandy post, starting with:

21 Jump Street might have opened big and The Hunger Games hovers on the horizon, but the weekend belonged to Prometheus, Ridley Scott’s return to the science-fiction genre that promises fans a prequel of sorts to his seminal work, Alien. And it’s those very same fans who took to Twitter, Facebook and countless chat rooms to extol the virtues of the assorted Prometheus clips that dropped over the weekend, setting the tone of this ominous space-creature thriller and giving us an idea of how epic Scott’s journey to the deepest corners of outer space will be. Three clips in total screened over the weekend, from an IMAX clip to an international teaser trailer. Scope them out below, because Prometheus invades theaters on June 8:

“Only the living can kill the dead,” one character warns in the latest long clip from Timur Bekmambetov’s Vampire Hunter. And we care because the “living” refers to Abe Lincoln, our nation’s 16th president who, in this alternate history, hunted undead creatures of the night before taking office. Bekmambetov directed the vampire thriller Night Watch and its sequel before moving on to Wanted with Angelina Jolie. This new clip for the offbeat Lincoln boasts at least three memorable action set pieces that are sure to give history students a jolt. The more I see about Vampire Hunter, the more excited I get. We have to wait until June 22 to see if history and mystery make for strange bedfellows. Here’s the clip, via IGN.

Taylor Swift’s “Eyes Open”

The Hollywood Reporter had a bit of a scoop over the weekend, posting a live version of Taylor Swift’s “Eyes Open,” her second tune from the Hunger Games soundtrack. They way Swift teases it to her Auckland, New Zealand audience, you get the impression that she’s breaking some “embargo” by playing it early (the single drops on March 20). This is a high-quality YouTube clip of Swift’s jangly song, which the teen audience eats up with a spoon.

Finally, we have Lockout, a sci-fi thriller directed by James Mather starring Guy Pearce as a government agent accused of a crime he didn’t commit. He’s offered amnesty, but only if he can infiltrate a high-tech outer-space prison and rescue the President’s daughter (Maggie Grace). It sounds like Escape from New York, but this 5-minute clip out of WonderCon makes it look more like Blade Runner or even The Matrix … a good thing, for sure. Lockout lands in theaters on April 13, and co-stars Peter Stormare and Lennie James. What do you think?
