We Asked You to Cast the 'Fifty Shades of Grey' Movie. Who Did You Suggest?

Earlier this week, we ran a story about The Social Network producers Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti taking over on a feature-film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey, E.L. James’ passionate trilogy about love and bondage. Since it’s more of a question of “when” (as opposed to “if”) Hollywood will make Grey into a movie, we figured we’d get the ball rolling on casting for the production, and we opened the floor to reader comments.

And boy, did you let us know who you’d like to see playing Anastasia and Christian.

Sixty one people commented below our story. And additional 220 commented on our Facebook page. You guys are passionate about your Fifty Shades

The Fifty Shades plot, as you probably already know, centers around a naïve graduate student named Anastasia Steele, who enters into a torrid love affair with the older Christian Grey, who introduces his playmate to the dangerous world of sado-masochism and bondage.

Ian Somerhalder, hands down, received the most “votes,” via comments. Alex Pettyfer, Bradley Cooper and Matt Bomer also received their fair share of votes to play Christian. Alexander Skarsgaard and Michael Fassbender also were suggested. (Just rent Shame, people. It’s kind of the same thing.)

As for Anastasia, some of you asked to see Scarlett Johansson in the role, while others envisioned Emmy Rossum, Emma Stone or Amanda Seyfried in the part. (Just rent Chloe, people. It’s kind of the same thing.)

My favorite post? The person who asked for Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. This did start as dirty Twilight fan fiction, after all.

The casting couch remains open. Let us know who you’d like to see in the Fifty Shades of Grey roles. We have no say in the matter. We just think it’s fun to speculate (and based on the response, you think so, as well!)
