Summer Movies 2016 News

Watch: 'Spider-Man' Reboot Gets an 'Amazing' Super Preview

Heroism. Humor. Heart. These are the traits of the Spider-Man I grew up on. And from everything I’m seeing, it’s exactly what we’ll see in Marc Webb’s upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man -- easily my most-anticipated blockbuster of the summer season.
I know what you’re thinking. More than The Avengers? More than The Dark Knight Rises? Yes, and yes. Maybe I’m crazy, but my childhood was spent collecting Spider-Man comics, and the little things that disappointed me about Sam Raimi’s trilogy appear to have been wiped away by Webb. The action looks more fluid. Webb went with Gwen Stacey (Emma Stone) as Peter Parker’s high school love interest instead of Mary Jane Watson – and a miscast Kirsten Dunst.
And here’s the most important part: Spidey’s finally funny. Parker’s trademark sarcasm – his endearing defense mechanism – was noticeably absent from Raimi’s films. It looks like Webb’s new Parker, played by Andrew Garfield, is going to rectify that.
Monday night on NBC’s America’s Got Talent, Sony teased a 4-minute “Super Preview” of Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man, which I’m happily sharing below. Essentially, it’s the same full-length trailer that hit the Internet last week, but with the bulk of an action scene attached to the front. Did you wonder why Spidey was dangling from a bridge holding a burning automobile in the studio’s most-recent trailer? This “Super Preview” explains that situation, and takes it one step further.
Why do I love it? Because of the way Peter figures out how to save a child in peril, by instilling the boy with courage when it’s needed most. If the rest of Webb’s feature is as thrilling and uplifting as that 60-second action sequence, we’re in for something very, very special.
After the bridge scene, we get the rest of the trailer, which introduces Parker’s close friends and family, and establishes The Lizard (Rhys Ifans) as his chief adversary. Webb apparently has designs for a new trilogy, and there’s a mysterious scene of some shadowy figure teasing a secret about Peter’s parents, who’ll play a more significant role in this origin story.
But so far, the size, scope and emotional heft of The Amazing Spider-Man have me bouncing in my seat and counting down the hours until I can finally see what Webb and his team have conceived. The blockbuster reaches theaters in 2D, 3D and IMAX on July 3. Here’s the latest preview. Let us know your thoughts below!
