Watch 'Hitchcock' Fight the Studios to Make 'Psycho' in International Trailer

Sacha Gervasi’s Hitchcock – which checks in with the iconic filmmaker as he fought to get Psycho off the ground – recently held its official premiere at the AFI Fest in Los Angeles, and is gearing up for its limited release on Nov. 23. Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren are earning raves for their portrayals of Hitchcock and his supportive wife, Alma. And the film is positioning itself for a lengthy awards race.
As is usually the case, the international trailer for Gervasi’s biopic reveals more footage than the recent domestic clip, finally giving us a good look (no pun intended) of Scarlett Johansson’s Janet Leigh in the infamous shower scene.
“Even a talented man sometimes backs the wrong horse,” an executive tells Hitch (Hopkins) as he tries to mount an adaptation of the violent novel Psycho. Of course, hindsight is 20/20, and we know that the movie goes on to become a massive hit. What Hitchcock does is reveal the brutal fight that happened behind the scenes, where a bankable director still has to convince studio heads to trust in his instincts.
The last few years, we have been treated to a cinematic biopic on identifiable figures like Marilyn Monroe. Hitchcock looks great. Here’s the international trailer, which gives a fuller picture of Gervasi’s intent. What do you think? Will you see it when it opens later this month?
