Watch a Hilarious Teaser for 'Lego Movie' Spin-off 'Ninjago'

Following the unbelievable success of The Lego Movie, it's no surprise to learn there's more on the way. But before a proper sequel to The Lego Movie hits screens on May 26, 2017, a spin-off based on the popular Lego line Ninjago will jump-kick its way into theaters on September 23, 2016. The first kinda-sorta teaser for Ninjago is currently available as a special feature on the Lego Movie DVD and Blu-ray, and in the spirit of both The Lego Movie and 22 Jump Street (both of which shared the same directing duo of Chris Miller and Phil Lord)the thing is just oozing with some hilarious meta humor.

Check it out:

Much in the same way directors Miller and Lord very directly poked fun at the realities of making sequels in 22 Jump Street, this teaser for Ninjago stars the "President of Hollywood," who shows up to inform Lego Movie hero Emmet that they're adding more ninjas to The Lego Movie because "kids love ninjas."

Fear not, Ninjago purists, the actual Ninjago movie will include all the things fans of the toyline and animated series want to see, like ninjas, samurai and dragons all battling it out in a mystical land. Based on this, though, the same level of humor that made Lego Movie a success will also make its way into Ninjago, with Miller and Lord returning as producers alongside many of the same Lego Movie writers. Charlie Bean (TRON: Uprising) will direct this time around.
