Rumors of a sequel to the 2008 Timur Bekmambetov action flick Wanted have been persisting for several years now. At one time, Angelina Jolie was considered to rise from the dead in the sequel, but in a recent interview with Hollywood.com, writer Derek Haas spoke to the disagreement he and co-writer Michael Brandt had with the direction Universal wanted to go with the sequel.
"After four years, from a creative standpoint, it's almost better, because we can pick up the story four years later. It's 'Where is Wesley four years after the events of the first movie?" Angelina Jolie gets shot in the head and everyone's like, 'Oh, are you going to bring back Fox?' I said, 'Did you see the bullet go into her head?' And they say, 'Oh, she can take one of those milk baths!' We never wanted to do that movie."
Haas and Brandt have since be re-hired to work on the sequel. Bekmambetov had previously teased that Wanted 2 would offer "a great twist" on the mythology of the first film, which apparently means James McAvoy's Wes steps into Fox's mentor role.
"The only thing I can tell you is that Wesley is now, four years later, recruiting a young woman who is in his situation in the first movie. She's got a sh**ty life. He's sort of in the Fox role. The new girl is brought into the world."
Let the casting debate begin. Kristen Stewart had once been rumored to play the female lead in the sequel, but those rumors have since been put to rest. Who would you like to see team up with McAvoy and kill one to save a thousand?
