'Twilight' Might Continue Without Stewart, Pattinson and Lautner: Good Idea?
You didn’t think Breaking Dawn Part 2 was going to be the end of The Twilight Saga as we know it, did you? When was the last time Hollywood let a massive cash cow like that mosey on off into the pasture? Admit it, it’s pretty rare.
Which is why sites like MovieHole are going live with reports that Lionsgate is exploring various options for life after Twilight that would extend the cinematic franchise … even if it loses its most recognizable assets.
Plans for more Twilight properties after Breaking Dawn are underway, the site says, with everything from a franchise reboot on television to a wolf-pack-based spin-off film on the table. The only consistent theme to all of the discussions, however, is the fact hat Twilight leads Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner will not be involved with the next chapter of any such story, so Twilight will need to figure out how to stand on its own two legs without the trio’s assistance.
Which begs the question: Are you willing to follow Twilight to another stage? If there’s a Twilight TV show, would you watch? If Lionsgate went ahead with a wolfpack movie starring some of the young male actors from the Saga, would you pay good money to watch it? Or should the studio just be thankful for the billions of dollars it already has wrung out of Stephenie Meyer’s literary series, and move on to the next big thing?
These are questions that will need to be answered. But not yet. We still have one more Twilight film on the horizon, preceded by the Twilight Marathon, which will screen all of the movies leading up to Bill Condon’s anticipated finale.
But it sounds like Twilight will live on after Breaking Dawn. How do you feel about that?
