'Twilight' Author Shelves 'Midnight Sun'

From Lizerne Guiting: It’s a sad week for Twilight fans. Author Stephenie Meyer is putting her book, Midnight Sun, indefinitely on hold after a partial draft was illegally posted on the Internet. I imagine many of her readers are also Harry Potter fans, so more sci-fi/fantasy entertainment delays are annoying.

Twilight In Meyer’s blog entry she wrote, "I’d rather my fans not read this version of Midnight Sun," but posted the draft on her own site after the leak, stating, "This way, my readers don’t have to feel they have to make a sacrifice to stay honest."

However unfortunate this breach of copyright, I admit that the easily available copy of the draft piqued my interest. Being a 25-year-old (ancient in comparison to tween Twilight fans), I had never heard of Meyer’s books until the news of the movie came out. As I skimmed through the first five pages of her draft, I found myself intrigued by the beginnings of a forbidden romance told from a vampire’s point of view, and even more interested in seeing Twilight. I hope she finishes her book regardless of what others might think.

Weigh in: What are your thoughts on this controversy? Are you more interested in watching Twilight because of the leak? Should fans do as she desires and wait till she releases an official copy of Midnight Sun?
